ok baby girl I appreciate this video, very informative, but let's get into the real tea: black boys and girls, these organizations will use your blackness to make their brand look diverse and inclusive. When I did Peace Corps, I had an intellectually outdated mestiza look me in my eyes and tell me "we picked you because you're black". But when people before me and myself tried to educate her and her staff of racism and the things that were being done to other volunteers of color, they basically told us to suck it up and deal with people spitting in 4C hair and being called the "n" word. Or they just get rid of you entirely since it's too much paperwork and politics for them to handle. Now, you will not learn about these things unless you are actually on site and communicating to other people of color. Most countries are not like the US where at least there is somewhat of a platform for black folks to unite and tackle these things. Racism/colorism is oftentimes invisible, especially in Latin American countries. I can't give you advice on the matter because I myself am still mentally recovering from all this. What I would tell my younger self is that your blackness is VALUABLE to these types of coporations. Yes, racism is everywhere, but don't recruit black kids, USE them for the sake of brand image improvement, while NOT assuring their safety, Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, ANYCorp. As black travelers, PLEASE continue to see this beautiful world and continue to go for your dreams. On one hand, I am only one statistic; on the other hand, be aware that you are a BLACK American traveling, not an American. The rules and treatment will dramatically differ depending on where you are, domestically and internationally.

Doing my second AmeriCorps year, in Alaska. I did back to back Peace Corps assignments (Armenia and Ethiopia) and was evacuated from Ethiopia, in 2020. Thanks for your video!!!
