Thanks for the video. I actually really dislike Goddess and Good Girl, but I know many people love them. My husband loves Jasmine, so I almost always wear Jasmine fragrances on special occasions. Fils de Joie from Serge Lutens and Lust from Lush are two of my favourite Jasmines.

Totally agree with what Ava said, as can really relate, as the addiction took off during COVID-19, and influencers didn't help as UA-cam was my entertainment during that period , and the addiction kicked in, went from designer, Niche and then Middle Eastern, but trying to control my spending now , so going for the smallest bottles possible like 10,20, & 30ML in order to minimise the collection

Wat een leuke video! Ben altijd benieuwd naar de mening van een ander, want iedereen heeft zijn eigen idee van wat relaxatie en ontspanning betekent. En wat je op dat moment wil doen; opkrullen met een boek in de zetel, slapen of yoga doen. Ik ben niet iemand die snel of gemakkelijk volledig kan ontspannen en een geur kan daar inderdaad bij helpen! Ik spray bijvoorbeeld graag iets op mijn kussen voor ik ga slapen. Zo is mijn meest recente geur Cocon de sérénité van L’Occitane. Zachte lavendel met een vleugje citrusvruchten. Kwartiertje voor het slapengaan even verstuiven en genieten! Ik denk dat Jeremy in de tijd slim moet zijn geweest en geld moet hebben gekregen van Guerlain, want hij sprak echt in elke video er opnieuw over. Ook ik ben die gaan kopen in de tijd 😂 Intussen is de fles helaas leeg en ik vind het een zeer vrouwelijk geur, eentje die ik vooral droeg om zelf van te genieten, want na een uur rook niemand het nog. 😢 Pure musk, wat een topper! Zit aan mijn tweede fles op 3 jaar tijd! Had hem getest op mijn pols in de winkel, niet gekocht en verder gaan shoppen, tot ik in een pashokje stond en absoluut versteld stond van de geur die er hing. Ik was op dat moment helemaal alleen in de winkel, maar toch heeft het even geduurd voor ik door had dat het van mij kwam. Zo puur, zo kalm, mooi en elegant. Mijn go to parfum wanneer ik extra hulp kan gebruiken voor een beetje ontspanning op het werk. De projectie is gigantisch en het werkt ook op een positieve manier naar de medemensen toe. Wordt absoluut nogmaals herhaald eens het flesje leeg is! Is trouwens ook de geur die ik droeg toen in mijn partner leerde kennen. Brengt steeds fijne herinneringen terug. Lijkt me ook een fantastische geur voor bijvoorbeeld een huwelijk. De typische geuren om te ontspannen op de yoga of de natuur zijn voor mij de groene geuren of zelfs wat citrussen, zoals bijvoorbeeld Fly Away van Mugler. Is een propere, frisse geur van versgemalen gras die jou gewoon doet ademen en al je gedachten op 0 zetten. Voor een man die niet van rozen houdt, probeer eens bijvoorbeeld Soul of my Soul van Etat Libre d’Orange! Of een andere geur van uit hun gouden flesjes. De roos speelt er een centrale rol, maar is telkens anders ingepakt. Erg unisex en naar mijn bescheiden mening en kennis van rozen, best vernieuwend. Merci voor de review! Ben benieuwd naar meer!

Rihanna used to wear Love, don’t be shy by Killian. Very sexy, edible and playful as well. It has the notes of white florals and marshmallows. Something that makes men drool, literally 😂 It used to be my date scent until I ran out of it. It’s still on my whishlist to buy again in the future. Try it ❤ Zara has a cheap dupe of it, called Ruby Infusion, but that just doesn’t do it for me.. Would be fun though to try them both blind and see if I could get them apart, or if it’s just all in my head.

Fragrance reminds me of my grandma, who just passed a few months ago. I always lived with her. She loved to wear and smell perfumes. Thinking of her keeps me in check from going overboard because she only wore 3 different scents for certain occasions. I have about 8 and even that many feels like more than enough to me. I often share with my mom and sister. I love to try new samples though, so that never ending curiosity is there! ❤

I'm lucky that I almost never like anything from first sniff, which had taught me to be extremely careful with buying full sized bottles, especially blind. but I'm curious by nature, so I buy a lot of decants, which has honestly become overwhelming. I try to give a fair chance to the new perfumes in decants and wear them at least a few times, which means I don't get to wear perfumes I actually love as much 🫤

I'm a huuuuuuuuge fan of Dirt. It's perfect for falling asleep, but I also love wearing it in the summer. A feel-good fragrance

For me, some things work against overspending and hoarding 1. sticking to my favourite notes primarily / incense, pepper, etc, plus a few complementary ones / tropical notes > curating the collection from a certain angle. 2. Lists - One for what I want, but still research, maybe some reviews will be enlightening in a negative way, Second list - for describing what I have and writing my impressions - helps put attention to the scents I own, instead of buying new ones. 3. Layering what you already have ..dark, oudy, incense-heavy ones with some sweetness or fav fruit notes - instead of chasing the elusive holy grail that has it all. I used to think of layering as a sacrilege, but I do not now. Even with the few perfumes you have there are so many layering options - so much fun.

Hey Brecht en Eva! Wat een interessant onderwerp! En denk ik herkenbaar onder veel mensen. Vooral dat stukje van de Heilige Graal. Exact! Ik ben ook steeds op zoek naar een nieuwe, betere, andere, speciale, mindblowing geur. En telkens wanneer ik er een vind, begint mijn zoektocht gewoon opnieuw. Ik kies geuren in functie van mijn humeur die dag en kan dus doorheen de dag verschillende geuren dragen. Ook ik heb geprobeerd om er eens geen of minder te kopen, maar de volgende maand compenseer ik dat met er dubbel zo veel te kopen 😂😢 Ik koop eigenlijk geen geuren, maar verschillende gevoelens voor verschillende momenten in het leven. Ik hoop dat jullie begrijpen wat ik bedoel! Ik ben trouwens ook van België, moesten jullie interesse hebben in een uitwisseling van parfums en ervaringen. I have way more than I care to admit... When I declutter I sell some to friends for a pittance and give some away. I also let my friends use my collection like a perfume library to try things out before buying. I do, however, have a hard time not buying. January was supposed to be a no-buy...Instead I ended with two niche perfumes, two or three Arabian scents, and one designer. Yeah. Going for a no-buy in Febru...oh, nevermind, a perfume is on its way. Ok, willpower - just one this month. Ech.

I'm trying to stop this addiction. Is buying just 1 niche per month healthy?

This year, I’m trying to limit(or at least reduce) my spending by first selling perfumes in my collection that aren’t getting worn, to pay for new purchases. It’s getting harder and harder though, as my collection isn’t too big and I love them all.

I can only imagine the frustration of such a huge collection! I have about forty perfumes myself, and I already feel so frustrated because I can't wear them very much! I realised this this year, and I've recently started to rotate my collection to make sure I wear them all ... I wear about 6 perfumes a month, and this rotation means that one perfume only comes back 2 or 3 months out of the 12.... So frustrating. So I'm trying to reduce my collection a bit, and I wait until I've finished 3 fragrances before buying a new one ... not easy in any case, and like you, I buy the smallest bottle possible. I don't buy blindly either, I now buy samples every time ... I'd love videos like this to keep me motivated!

Great discussion that I can totally related to. My collection started to grow during the lockdown in COVID. I totally agree! The number 1 rule I learned my hard way along the years is to try before I buy 😊

This is a good conversation and it resonated with me. I am a gatherer so getting into perfumes provided an expensive outlet for this vice. I am also rewarding myself for work stress by buying things. I am running out of room now especially since I keep the boxes (always thinking I could sell them again on Mercari or the like) and it’s taking up so much space!

Fragrance is a hobby so I don't judge myself or others too much for having a lot of bottles-- there are worse vices lol. But personally, I really don't want a very large collection. There are probably tens of thousands of perfumes that smell "good" out there. I try hard to only buy what I truly love (secondhand, as much as possible). That said, I buy as many decants/samples as I want. That more than satisfies the urge for novelty for me.

When one of my best friends got married 10 yrs ago she fell in love with Carnal Flower from my collection. I gifted her my bottle and it is now her signature scent! Great conversation. My buying has slowed down but I’m still picking up discovery sets and the odd bottle. I’m doing more decants too instead of a full bottle. I agree with this. I find I use up decants and travel sprays faster anyways because I take them with me when I’m out and about so they become my most worn scents just from convenience and for that reason I often opt out of the bottle too.

I think that the more you buy the shorter the impact a new fragrance has on you. You’re not savoring the art anymore, you are collecting it. It’s pure dopamine chasing. Try making a yearly list of the 4 most wanted scents (1/season). Before buying them, try them in the store and wear them in at least 4 different environments and preferably surrounded by different people. That’s a good way to practice patience and to recognize stress.

Very important topic & 100% REAL. I think part of it is the hunt: watching frag reviews, reading fragrantica reviews, seeking out the best deals & then waiting & finding out if a worthy BLIND BUY😅Terrible idea. It’s a vicious cycle no doubt. A merry go round. Definitely agree a fantastic rule would be decant & if loved so much it’s used up THEN full bottle. Add to that: new full bottle in? Then at least 1 or 2 bottles must go out. Also trying to stick to figuring out ones absolute favorite from a scent profile & selling off all the others in ones collection. I’m doing NONE of these concepts & even failed a no-buy in January almost immediately. I need help😅

Hello, when I decide not to buy for a month, at the end of the month,I realise that I bought 5 or 6 perfumes ! And I don't declutter, I'm afraid to miss it after ! But now I realise when I smell something or worse, when I buy something, sometimes I have already something quite similar ! I think I'm going round in circles. I think part of the attraction is the novelty. Since we're really searching for what we think fragrances will BRING us rather than the fragrances themselves, it helps if we develop a relationship with every fragrance we have, especially the ones we just acquire. Instead, what ends up happening is we get distracted by the latest novelty and fail to create a scent memory with our acquisitions, reducing their percieved value and justifying our continued search. There are some parallels with clothing, shoe and even porn fixations, as well as social attractors like the drive to be a part of a community. Nothing wrong with fixations of course, as long as we're balancing them and learning something along the way. Velvet Orchid such a lovely gift btw!! Very kind of Eva. ❤

Thank you for this insightful and much needed conversation. I started my perfume journey a year ago and I only have 9 full bottles still. Just don’t ask me how many decants and travel size I have lol I feel like just smelling it scratches the itch for me. My goal is to not have more than 20 bottles in my collection ever. I just don’t have the space and I feel overwhelmed easily. I plan out my purchase for the whole year - full bottle every other month unless it’s a true cheapie. I also buy travel size first if I like a decant, and toward the end of the travel size if I still want a full bottle I put it on my list. It’s definitely still expensive to buy decants and travel sizes but I try to set a budget and stick with it and make sure our other bills are paid and our financial goal is still on track.

Decants are a good idea, but, I too buy bottles sometimes as the deal is so good (and I don't mind partials). Then again, like Fliss on the Les Oderants pod cast, I will admit that sometimes I am a pretty bottle whore and have to get the bottle as it is art too.

I don't know about a victim of marketing, maybe more peer influence on scents I think I would like. I don't mean social website influencers. I only watch a few. The reason I like this channel is that I tend to favor the same scent types as Brecht and that I know that you are not being pressured by free stuff to say nice things. You two are too polite to be mean but at the same time, as you buy everything, I believe you give your honest opinions on scents.

I am around 300 bottles deep in my collection. Early on in my journey I was more addicted to chasing the next bottle but now if I want to buy a new fragrance I have to get rid of or use two bottles and that works well for me. I also keep half my collection rotated in storage at a time so when I have an itch for something new I can "shop" my own collection, that a nice money saver.
