To me, him staining the wood parts is to bring them back alive . Though after sanding , all he had to do as well is brush on a clear coat . So it all depends how He wants it I assume .
I know this tool as an American Brace or American Auger. What is the purpose of staining the wood handle and pommel? The wood used to make these would often be of figured walnut, hickory or even more precious hardwoods.
It's called only cleaning not restoration ?

كنت أظن أن النمسا تنفرد وحدها بصناعة هذا النوع من الطباخات.. اتضح ان الاتحاد السوفيتي السابق يصنعها أيضًا.. أحسنت عمل رائع.. مع ملاحظة أني مع البساطة، مع الأشياء القديمة البسيطة التي يمكن أن أصلحها أنا إذا تعطلت.. ولست مع الأفران والطباخات المعقدة التي لا أعرف كيف أتعامل معها..
