🎮 Designing Choke Points in Multiplayer Maps 🎮
When it comes to multiplayer games, choke points are critical. I talked with Jack Burrows, level designer at NetEase, and he shared some key insights into how he approaches designing these high-stakes areas. 🚀
In games like Marvel Rivals, with heroes who traverse maps in all kinds of ways, Jack says the goal is to balance flow and friction. Choke points are where the action gets intense, but they need to feel fair for all players-whether they’re hyper-mobile like Spider-Man or slower tanks.
And how do you get it right? Playtesting. You’ve got to see where the friction happens in real-time and tweak everything-narrow paths, raise ceilings, adjust sightlines. It’s a constant process of iteration.
Designing levels is all about finding the sweet spot between guiding players and letting the action flow. And trust me, choke points can make or break your map!

It's funny how perspective matters. I really did know better, but my first reaction was to assume that "security" in the online context means "personal security" and that it is therefore either synonymous with or the product of privacy. I do in fact appreciate that for certain national security and law enforcement applications this is not the case, and yet the instinct remains. It's hard to imagine that the hoover approach to data collection by the industry today, or even by government, has any legitimate justification in terms of the actual security of actual people. Even with terrorism- the amount of chit chat must exceed the actual capacity or likelihood of operations by many orders of magnitude. In an earlier era, when it was far more difficult to collect data from phone calls or mailed, written communication, the threats were not likely that different, and we endured. I appreciate this might seem a willfully naive take, and perhaps it is, but also not. The bulk of real harm that can be done online is online harm. The privacy and security of individuals are largely the same in this context, and involve protecting their real assets, location, and identity from hostile actors, all of which is more harmed by corporate mass data collection than protected by it.

ok ;/ Don't take this personal ok >This is just my Opinion !!! I started playing Monster Legends back in 2015 ( and still playing today ) after the game Vampire Wars was Cancelled :( . the game ( ML ) was great in the beginning and I'm positive that the metrics for peoples age was there > but when you " SOLD OUT " to Take Two and Zyngass !! the game has turned into a GREED FACTORY !!! ALL to pay for Management and CEO GREED !!!. And for What ?? RE designs of legend monsters to mythics >> half the work is done for ya > maybe make Legends UPgradable to LVL 150 to really screw things up :) I see people QUITTING everyday because of the GREED and the crappy mythic monsters SP keeps pumping out like toilet paper :( I hope your new game > Top Troops fails, because in the end , the PLAYERS will figure out your SCAM GREED FACTORY !!! , NO MATTER WHAT AGE !!! Hey GREG maybe next Pod you can ask some real Truth Questions ?? >> WILL AI take over the place of Coders ?? so all we are left with is the CORP GREED !!? DO BETTER GREG AND DO BETTER SP !!!

I never want Microsoft to be incharge of add-ons, mods, or anything else associated with the game I have purchased 2x 5 and 10 years ago respectively. They ruin everything they touch and I might really and actually loose the entirety of my cool. We purchased it for 30 to a hundred or more dollars. Let us have it. When did we stop agreeing to a transfer of ownership after a transfer of money. What is our world coming to. I don't want multi platform. I don't even want the new updates. I just want my game. And the modding community.

Languages are so wierd (weird? Idk how to spell it they're both looking real wierd/weird to me now, its 5:35 in the morning right now don't judge me), I love it. Every one is so unique, even if they use the same general format such as the latino languages. To think we share a tiny little insignificant rock in a big ass void that can't really be called a void because stuff exists in it, evolve from common anscestors, just in different regions of said rock, and generate different forms of communication that truly are so different from each other. I know I went on a bit of tangent there from 'languages are cool', but they are. P.S. I woke up a bit whilst writing this, and I think it's 'weird'. P.P.S. dam. thats a lot of words... P.P.P.S. too bad I'm not readin em...
