Videos of the stupid and interesting (to me) stuff I build in my garage. I'm NOT a trained engineer, so everything I do here is for entertainment's sake. If you copy what I'm doing, it's at your own risk.

great progress! is there any concern in a front collision that the aluminum brace will push into the cabin like a spear?
Lord I hope not
@@HorribleOldCrank I suppose if it isn't holding much load you could preemptively weaken it so that it buckles in a good, predictable way in a front collusion. As long as it starts to fold upward it shouldn't be any problem I wouldn't think. Something to think about. Thanks for documenting and sharing!
Great update! Love the plumbing strap, and your observation about it 😂. In my life my go to classy solution for far too many things is a jubilee clip, not sure what you call them where you are.
We just call them hose clamps, and yes, I use them for everything. LOL
Maybe you can get one of these 8kW Vevor diesel heaters, they are quite good. But without any insulation the heat might leak out rather quickly. Some degrees more in the garage do make the life a lot more pleasant though.
GREAT JOB MY FRIEND !!! I JUST SAW ALL YOUR VIDEOS TODAY 10/09/24 AND I HAVE LEARED ALOT FROM YOU !!! I AM CONVERTING A 1992 GEO METRO WITH A SMALL KUNRAY (KR5V) 5000 WATT ELECTRIC MOTOR AND 8 TO 10 80 VOLT POWER TOOL BATTERIES !!! I THANKS FOR YOUR GREAT ADVICE AND TOTURAL VIDEOS !!!!

"always somethin'.... endless fartin' around"... truer words have never been spoken about garage work.
what exactly is your plan? you want to drive a volvo s70, which weighs around 1500 kg, with such a small battery? what range do you want to achieve with the volvo? 5 km? I'm a technician and I'm very interested in your idea, but the battery seems really small to me. how many kWh is that? what voltage do you want to achieve for the motor? is it a 1-phase DC motor or why could it only be turned with 24V?
Take a look at my episode on Minimum Viable product and battery selection.
Nope, your adaptor is NOT ugly. It is cleanly or neatly done and that makes it beautiful! Subscribed!
¿Dónde consigo uno en México de corriente continua? Gracias.
You literally just saved me tons of welding by having me take a look on vevor and I found some fiberglass boxes which would literally be the best insulated box that I could have.
I find this interesting. I and my brother wish to convert or mini 6 seater commercial but to EV how posible is it and what are required?
Best of luck to ya. Hoping for as few hoops to jump through as possible 🤙
I own a 99 V70 T5. I really want you to succeed! I won't be converting mine, but I'm living vicariously through you doing yours. All strength and luck to you man.
very good i want one to install in my Toyota Noah
amazing i want to try this
I think if you could add power it might just give some good speed addmor badrys or connect the badrys to an alternator
6:45 The hose from the reservoir to the clutch master cylinder should be available at your local auto parts stores, it has an inner diameter of 8mm. However it must be a hose specifically meant for brake fluid of course. Possibly 5/16" works too if that has better availabilty?
2:10 The driveshaft is (was) not necessarily bad, the inner joint can just be pulled out (which you shouldn't do because it's a real PITA to get back together. Ask me how I know...). But it's good that you got new drive shafts anyway. You'll have to do some engineering to create the CV axle bearing mount for the passenger side, but I have precise measurements on where the mounting holes on the engine block are relative to the gearbox and engine mounts.
Amazing job and fascinating video, nicely produced! So cool.
Hi What motor did you use.
Unsure... something out of a Yale forklift that weighed 5000 lbs. and could then move cargo... I figure it can move a 3000 lb car.
great choice for ev conv
Remember to take *SO MANY* pictures of everything. You can never have enough reference pictures to put everything back together 😅

good job,i will love something like this on my boat
I am a Volvo fan, I had a S40, a S80 and a XC60. Now I have a Hyundai Ioniq. I wish you the best in this project from Barcelona, Spain
Like! I dreamed of an an eVolvo. Ended up with an EV VW bus. Great work!
Puch Maxi ! At the background❤😂 best wishes from austria
Your new S70 looks really beautiful on camera :) I did not know they were available in red, but the paint looks still quite good. Not faded, no clear coat missing.
5:20 You can actually shift a manual gearbox without a clutch. The synchros can adapt the rotor speed of the electric motor if you command zero torque. Damien from EVBMW has been and continues driving two(?) of his BMWs like that for many tens of thousands of kilometers.
That was the original plan, but after seeing what happned to that other Volvo transaxle... I'm going to treat those synchros like they're made from fine china.
Can you link me your spreadsheet calculator? I will be using it for my ev conversion.
My friend.. Can I run a 2200w 72v motor with a 3000w 72v controller?? Or could a problem occur?
I am not an electrical engineer, just a hobbyist. I cannot give advice.
Yeah u can just improve the cooling
You're so close putting everything together, so happy to see you didn't give up.
Wow, setbacks like this are really disheartening, but I'm glad to hear you want to continue :)
jesus christ how fkd are your welds lol
looking forward to the next video! best of luck with the batteries.
Wow, that's quite an elaborate selection process :)
Did you look into used batteries? BMW has nice 7/9/12kWh batteries in their hybrid vehicles and you should be able to get one for $1000-2000. The voltage is obviously too high for your DC motor, but they are modular and you could reconfigure the cell packs. One has around 60V I think, so maybe two in series and more in parallel? BMS might be a challenge, but it's reasonable to assume it could be adapted. For an initial run you might get by without.
I'm looking at everything... I'll be posting a video about how I'm deciding on batteries, I have a pretty elaborate spreadsheet that does a lot of the figuring for me. The BMS issue is really a tough one, that's my holdup on using salvage packs. As far as voltage goes... I clocked the brushes on the forklift motor, it's going to be fed more than 48V whether it likes it or not. :-)
Great video! Glad to see you're back. Helpful to highlight how you're navigating the logistical and practical challenges/considerations alongside the mechanical / design challenges. Beautiful dresser in the foreground as well.
Buying a new batteries? That's gonna be expensive, I would go for a Nissan leaf battery pack
how to get local electric motor
I've driven almost 1000 miles in a car with a coupler centred in a similar way. So far no issues so yours should be fine. 🙂
Very nice to see a volvo conversion project. I'm in the process of preparing a Volvo V70 I conversion as well, but with a Mitsubishi Outlander rear motor and inverter.
What voltage will you be using to power this ev? At 24v it doesn't seem to be spinning fast, even my 300lbs motor spins 80rpm/v (dc series wound)
144
cool! I'm waiting to see the outcome of that. I'm considering conversion of my 2002 Volvo XC70 and looking for some examples
Amazing progress, how do size that big fuse? at what current it will breaks?
