Terry Smith and I kayak 7.5 miles on the Gilahina and then continue down another 28 miles on the Chitina to the Copper River confluence. This river is located on the McCarthy road in Wrangell St Elias National Park and Preserve. Tons of wood and lots of portaging. The creek was time consuming although the limestone canyon was neat. The Chitina was wide and fast. We were moving 10+ miles per hour at certain spots.
Wouldn't recommend doing it in one day like we did. A 2 day trip could be fun with a little more water in the creek too.
Terry and I scouted or boat scouted every blind corner and portaged 10+ times dues to wood. Be careful out there.
