Engraving Painted Tiles with the XTool S1

Over the last couple of months I have been painting and engraving tiles. I should have made several small videos of the learning process, but I kept learning and recording. Now I have finally edited all that work together and made this video. Hopefully I capture the improvements. In this video I create my first engraving from an image. I am using some recycled wood from IKEA cut down and glued together (first time trying this) The initial engraving took about 45 min, and was not at a high enough power so i run it a second time to get a deeper engraving. I have a second version on the cutting table subscribe to see if i improve. Thanks for watching. John

I'm not sure if I can change it after its uploaded. This is the 40w Blue diode, I think the 2w module is the infra red I have done a test run on different wood to choise the 40% power, 200% speed, but I guess something was different with the wood. @@JSR_Design it is fun trying out the many types of materials Also with wood there is a lot of factors to consider Like the grain quality and the texture of the surface along with how much moisture is in the material And the brightness from one piece to another Always try a material test It saves a lot of frustration And remember to save your settings for the type of material that you have got a good result from So you get a nice database to choose from when do same again As for the video I would upload in a lower quality as UA-cam upscales it to 1080 and the process improves Well that's what I find works good for me

    Thanks for the tip on lining the distance for the laser, Having the S1 20w I’ve yet to give ago on the stainless steel dog tag but 1 question, I thought all metals are meant to be painted Matt black because the light would bounce back and damage the laser.

    • @JSR_Design
      @JSR_Design 7 місяців тому

      Hello, Thanks for the comment, I just read about it, and found this... "when a laser beam interacts with a reflective surface like stainless steel, there is a risk of damaging the laser diode. Reflective materials can bounce the laser beam back towards the laser source, potentially causing damage to the laser optics or diode itself. Stainless steel, in particular, is highly reflective to many wavelengths of light, including those emitted by laser diodes. When the laser beam reflects off the stainless steel surface, it can create a feedback loop where the laser energy gets concentrated back into the laser system, leading to overheating and damage. Using a protective coatings or masking: Apply temporary coatings or masking materials to the stainless steel surface to reduce its reflectivity and absorb some of the laser energy." So.... Next time, I will use masking tape This is why I started my channel, as i am learning, and getting feedback from people. Thanks again. John

    Hi I’m new to this machine as well😅 I’m confused how you get the distance and the module numbers? I can’t get it right and the pointer thing doesn’t even touch the metal plus doesn’t engrave! Please help Thank you

    • @JSR_Design
      @JSR_Design 7 місяців тому

      hello, Have you checked the measuring probe is in the right place on the side of the laser module? If that is correct, you should be able to press the pointer part up and it clicks. Then in the software, there is a option to set the height, you need to put the red cross hair over the materrial to measure, and then press the little target icon in the software. The laser head then drops the pointer, and measures the height of the material, and resets on the metal datum point. I think in one of my videos i show this so ill have to have a look and let you know which one.

      At aroung 2:00 min mark in this video you can see i lined up the centre with the pointer to start with, but then moved it so that the red laser lines were in the centre. Next to the "Distance mm" measurment part in the software is the target icon to set the probe to move. let me know if this helps, I can could make a "short" video on this if you need it. JR

      What part of Spain are you in? I would love to live somewhere warm and make things without freezing in my garage.

    Ooh, fun! I'm getting my S1 next week. I've made paper versions but this is definitely going to be a project for me!

      I think the S1 will be great for you, I'm going to try more materials and understand the range of things we can make with this machine. Thanks. JR

      Thanks for the tip, I have some varnish to try, maybe next time I will think about making it look better.
