Check out the "Tibet Vista" channel right here on UA-cam for current footages, see if the Tibet's world is lost.
This is amazing 35:10 they are watching the old footage as if archeologically. But if you go to Lhasa today, you will see people prostrating still the same way. What is truly lost is the former aristocrats and the slave owning elites, but they have a bigger voice, as it is always the case for the rich and the powerful. The Dalai Lama himself is a nice guy. If you read his own biography, he did not want to leave but was hijacked by the elites and the CIA. That's right, he was "forced" not by the Chinese but by the former ruling class. I am not here to whitewash the Chinese occupation. In deed the Culture Revolution was terrible. But on the other hand, an egalitarian revolution could not be forgone without cost.

Pema Tsomo It is rather unfortunate but it is the reality. The Spanish conquered South America, other Europeans took over North America from the indigenous Indians. The British colonised India, Burma etc. And also took over Australia and New Zealand from the native groups. Russia too took over many countries. Mongolia was split between China and Russia until the Russian part regained independence. Tibet is extremely unlikely to be physically free again but of course Tibetans should try to influence events there so the culture and Buddhism are not lost. Others know better than I what is best to be done within the constraints there. I am from Wales. The English came and forbid us to speak Welsh, took ownership of lands etc. We retained our language and culture to a certain extent. Other conquered countries did not. Tibet has a complex history of conquering and being conquered over the last two thousand years. The Mongol yuan dynasty conquered all in its path including Tibet and China and when they were eventually forced out of China, China loosely kept its interest and a governor in Tibet. Tibet was largely left untouched until the British incursion to Lhasa in 1904 and the threat of Russian invasion from the North woke up Beijing to the threat of ‘losing’ land. Tibet is clearly ethnically and culturally not Han Chinese just like Xinjiang in the west. However, thousands of years of warring nations taking each other’s land has set a precedent for the normalcy of taking other’s land. Unfortunately, I say again. But this is the reality.

If anyone is sincerely care about the human wrongs in Tibet, they should address the evils of the serfdom committed by the Delai Lamas and his maroon monks for thousands of years. As far as I am concerned Tibet is free, and will remain that way for the coming generations. Delai Lama claims to be god, and as far as I am concerned god doesn’t need any support from anyone, so, let him defeat the Chinese and restore himself back in Lhasa.
