Turning a 27' hull with just 2 guys Sept 2019
Переглядів 1,7 тис.5 років тому
Here's one way of turning a hull with only 2 guys and some basic pulleys, come-alongs and rope. The hull is suspended in continuous rope slings which go through pulleys, which are in turn lifted by second pulleys at the top of the A-frames, through which the lifting ropes are led down to the come-alongs (hand winches). The slings rotate along with the hull, making the turning almost frictionles...
New oil Tank

Moving and placing 250 gallon oil tank the primitive way. The block and tackle (pulleys to landlubbers) were home made as was (obviously) the Rube Goldberg forklift based on a boat trailer winch with jackall jack assistance. Vice grips provided fall protection. Do not try this at home...

Kattu sailing fast upwind
Переглядів 17 тис.11 років тому
Sea Trial #4...we deliberately sailed into a "Qualicum", a local phenomenon with winds of 25 knots gusting to 30 and more, with full sail up to shake things down and see what Kattu is made of. She came through with flying colors, allthough from now on I will put in the first reef in these conditions. The sails, made by Jeckells, sure set nice. Close hauled and tacking through nearly 90 degrees,...
Very impressive. Looks faster than 9-10 knots. I initially thought you must be reaching, but as you say, the wave direction shows you are beating to windward.
INCREDIBLE!!!
Wow wow woweeeee!!!
My heart would be in my throat.
Hello ... I was curious why you chose a sharpie for your next build. Is this a good design for sailing the Strait of Georgia and points north? Thanks.
Sure looks pretty with the well set sails, especially with the matching Canadian flag fling on the stern. Well done.
Would have helped to have some close ups and views from different angles during the process. Standing so far away and in one place with the camera doesn’t reveal much.
Yes, I agree. The video wasn't a planned thing, my wife just happened by with a camera and stayed out of harm's way, after the turn had already begun. I uploaded the video for whatever it may be worth.
Tiki 38?? 48??? She looks beautiful. Wharram boats are minimalist . Like a bare structure you flesh out. Make more vids about her!
Looks like a tiki 38
Nice boat! Tiki 48??
You're getting those speeds to windward on that boat ? Got to admit I'm almost shocked. Wow.
Great video, Alf! That's an impressive flip of your Chessie Flyer! Thanks for sharing this.
sailing upwind my arse...thats a broad reach...sheets are out
No thanks to any wind from your arse, that is a gaff rig and it is as close hauled as it can be. The wave direction clearly shows the boat sailing upwind. Are you even a sailor?
More like close hauled, and it's good enough for me🙂 wharram design cuts through the water like a knife🙂
Shit, that thing is smokin.
Is this boat still home based on or near Vancouver Island? I was on Hornby Island not so long ago - would love to see Kattu if I am back there again. I am building my second Wharram - a Mana 24 - and at my stage in life, a Tiki 38 is just a whimsical wish. I love that design!
Hi Rod, sorry I missed your comment until now. Kattu was sold in Tahiti in 2014. The new owner charters her at Bora Bora. You can see her at: www.airbnb.ca/rooms/29987567?guests=1&adults=1&source_impression_id=p3_1561785302_GNGZuAI38uG%2FbRw6

Belo través, lindo tiki, é um 38 pés? tem mais vídeos da parte interna? Grato Mauro
Lovely. Boat, sails, performance, all. Look forward to more videos of this boat in action.
Gorgeous! Love the red sails against the blue sky, mirroring the red roofs on shore and reflected in the water. Too bad you're going so fast that the video can't focus on your ear-to-ear grin!
