Couple of scenes found on an old piece of family film. Don't know where the Amusement Park engine at the start was filmed.

Steam Excursion 90's from Rochester MN. to Winona, MN. with an interesting collection of passenger cars.
I lived in Wausau 1974-1978 and began my railfan hobby there…vividly recall the Weyerhaeuser mill in Rothschild and I did business with Wausau Homes…real memory recall, thanks.
Thanks...Recorded on a VHS-C camera...pretty crude resolution but still a good memory. Glad you enjoyed.
now imagine that whole yard loaded with pup wood , higher than a locomotive
kool!
👍
Was CC&P class 1 or 2?? JC
Very nice video…thanks.
Great job… Back from 19 74-19 78 while living in Wausau I would frequently parallel this line on my way to either Stevens point or Wisconsin Rapids or Marshfield between Wausau and Junction City…This video brought back lots of memories, thanks again.
Thanks. Great that tech today can help share old VHC tapes.
I LIKE THE RIDE DOWN THERE TOO!!!!!!!!!
Nice mix of passenger cars!

Does anyone remember if the 328 was turned around in Winona or if it ran backwards to Rochester? On the Sunday round trip, the return was after dark so we couldn’t see the scenery of the great hills going up from the Mississippi valley.
there is wye in La Crescent MN
Nice catch with the Northern Pacific 4-6-0 steam locomotive. I've only seen broken steam locomotives (on display) except for one. (Union Pacific #844. [Touched it.{Saw it pull in.}]) And heard wistle. Nice catch.
Hope 328 steams again someday.
It stopped its restoration because the museum didnt have enough money. But when it has enough money, they should continue!
@@kawazy9528yes indeed. New firebox. Was told by someone her boiler does NOT need replacement. 2nd boiler course belly would need welded section.
Is this line still in active use today?
this video said it was filmed in 2011 ? I am not sure the rails lasted even that long,I am surprised , by 2006 the DNR had approved removal . I rode on these speeder cars in about 1996 - 1998 ish . I grew up just over the East hill from this Tunnel . now unfortunate bicycle trail . I think it is ,VERY unfortunate , loosing much of it's original charm and history . ( Stewart tunnel ) is it's name . and built about 1887. Neat Video !
this trail in this area by the tunnel is extremely dangerous for bicyclist and hikers . because there is a drop off about a quarter mile from the tunnel that drops about 20 + Feet . if a young rider , is not to good and not paying attention one will go over the edge . same with a crazy jumping around dog . I have lived in this area a long time . and there is "many of miles around in other areas that could have been used just for bicycles . and even with the trail, there now there is more bicyclist in the road ways than on trails . it is Terrible !

Not Wausau to Mosinee. Starts in Rothschild/Schofield area near highway 29 amd business 51.
Still a damn shame after all these years. I was thirteen when they ripped up the Madison Branch of the IC (CMN, WICT, WSOR). I rode the speeders as often as I could with my father. The bike trail promoters promised they could build the trail in one year. Well it took them nearly seven to nine years to complete the path all the way to Madison. I think the promoters forgot to tell people that they didn’t have the money for their ambitious goal. Depot Days was a great tourism pull to Green County. As much as I love to ride the former CNW line in Brooklyn, nothing beats going around a curve and traversing through a tunnel. I’m sure many others would agree. I’m surprised more people didn’t upload their videos of this line. Parts of the line I believe were viable to save. Personally, I would have saved the line from Belleville to Monroe. The grain traffic from Belleville and Monticello probably would have benefited the Badger Ethanol Plant in Monroe. Since the line did have a tourist pull I would have imagined the WSOR could have operated dinner trains on the line along with speeders. Maybe north of Belleville the line could have been used by the WSOR for storage. Furthermore, that corridor would have been great for a light rail passenger network proposed in 2010 or maybe in the future. I just want to say FUCK YOU to the Swiss CoCo Puff Bastards who voted to rip up the line in favor of a bike path. Every time I rode this trail I could still remember every siding in all the towns. One day I will rebuild this corridor in HO scale to recreate a history that was lost to short term business interests.
@HighIronofWisconsin I was 2 April 1999

Monroe WI is a superb little city. We can't wait to get back to revisit it!
The Rochester, Winona, Rochester round trip was one each Saturday and Sunday. I was a volunteer for the Sunday trip. They had to go slow through the hills by the Mississippi River as a flood had washed out the track in a few spots and was rough. The return trip Sunday was after dark.
User revenue keeps all North American Rails-to-Trails maintained and protected. Very few trails authorize snowmobiles and ATV's. Beware of DNR agents and county deputies if the trail you're on prohibits motorized vehicles.
My son and I rode this about then. Interesting ride through the tunnel.
I believe that part of this line is a bike trail now.
Not one for talking with your crew are ya lol
I remeber this engine from my childhood when it was in use! Unclie Jim fired it
Thought she had quite the roll on 'em pulling out--then came the consarned diesel! Oh, well, a beautiful little gal nonetheless. May she run again soon!
She could actually move that consist by herself even on a slight grade, those cars weigh about 50 tons a pop and all had roller bearings. 16 of those makes an 800 ton consist, for the sake of saying she's on a slight grade lets make the rolling resistance of the cars 20 lbs per ton, so the total rolling resistance of the consist when starting up is 16,000 lbs. 328 has 26,600 lbs of Tractive Effort, more than enough to get a move on if she can keep her footing.
Shame they tore up the tracks why couldn't they have a bike trail and train rides. Oh well. Thanks for the ride. TFS
+MostlymoparIH Great idea. They did what you suggest, in my hometown!
Where is your hometown?
+MostlymoparIH Northern California. Coloma/Placerville, CA. The train runs from Shingle Springs, CA to El Dorado, CA. It doesn't travel very far BUT it's FUN & the El Dorado County Historical Society & The El Dorado Western Railroad has done an excellent job in preserving the tracks & educating others regarding our rich history. After all EL Dorado County IS "The County which made California Great! It all started in 1848, when GOLD was discovered & as they say "The rest is history"! I think you can UA-cam the actual train ride.
Okay you're on the west coast. I am all the on the east coast. We have some history here too. Washington slept in our town in the Village Inn. Englishtown NJ, the cross roads back then. History is important but some people don't care about it. Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
MostlymoparIH You most certainly DO have history! We "out west" are babies compared to the history of the east! My Mother is the curator of one (of two) of our county museums.....Now that I am older, I appreciate it ALL so much more! My husband & I just purchased my family home (from my Mom), it was built in 1855. As I said......we are infants compared to you east coast folk!
Tbats Bellville Captain Jacko.
This must be the tunnel near New Glarus about 30 min north of Monroe Wisconsin on "Tunnel Rd." I was there in 2010 and it was all bike trail. Neat tunnel with a curve so you need a flashlight to traverse it, since it gets very dark in the middle. When was this video actually recorded? BTW the trackwork at 2:46 looks questionable... Is that some type of temporary speeder-specific trackwork? That looks like the roadway I parked at to access the tunnel when I visited....
How did you get this footage? DAMN MAN! also 0:29 IDIOT
i'm wondering too. I've walked across that bridge several times. I got caught on it once, but got to a water-barrel platform before I would have jump. Soo-Line was still running there and there weren't that many trains. I heard some friends that had to jump off and ended down stream. the water was deep and we all could swim pretty good.
man. i would do anything to drive that beauty. If only it was ready to run again.
I wonder if it's part of the cheese head atv trail now?
0:34 that guy is an idiot
This is former IC Trackage that ran from Freeport,Illinois to Madison,Wisconsin. After 1981 it was used by CM&N,CW,& finally WICT.After 1/1989,it no longer saw Train Service.
I know this comment is a couple of tears old, but thought I would share this anyway. I actually have a few still pictures of the Bellville Tunnel that I took in December 1988. At that time, it already looked like there had not been a train through there in a long time.
328 needs a new boiler if it were to run again. the old one is shot
The black bridge is actually almost black.
Back then the crossing in junction you go only south or east from the north. They put in one to the west not to long ago (2008 or 09) One of the roads when you enter the city has been cut off as a crossing since almost all crossings have to have arms and light warning systems. Trains are also not allowed to blow there horns in city limits either. A smaller bridge has been put next to the black bridge (next to Stevens Point dam) for natural gas pipeline. Not much change other than the WCR being bought out by CN.
Jedidiah Simons In the late 90's, there was a NE and SE leg at JO. We could wye coal power there if we had to. Then they put the Hiawatha siding and the SW leg in, and then restored the NW leg when CN got the coal contract from the CP in 2008. Originally, when it was Milwaukee and Soo Line, there was only the NW leg as an interchange track, and the Milwaukee and a siding to the north of old Hwy 10. They are planning to add CTC on the Valley and Green Bay line between JO and Taylor.
The Valley Line is getting CTC yes, but the Green Bay line is a different one, which has CTC coverage already from Neenah to Appleton, then is dark territory to Wrightstown where there is a CTC controlled siding, and from there it is all dark territory.
Northern Pacific 4-6-0 328 heads up the excursion trains from Rochester, to Winona, MN and return.
This would have been about 1991 as I recall.
when did that happen?
