Learn about the history of the Mount Tamalpais and Muir Woods Scenic Railway and our efforts to bring historic steam locomotive No. 9 back to Mt. Tam! At the turn of the last century, the Mt. Tam Scenic Railway was one of the most famous tourist attractions in the world. Starting in Mill Valley, in Marin County, California, it climbed and twisted about 2,000 feet up to the East Peak of Mount Tamalpais, earning it the nickname of "The Crookedest Railroad in the World." At the top of the mountain, passengers could enjoy themselves at the the Tavern and take in the magnificent view. The Railway was also the original gateway to Muir Woods. Halfway up the mountain passengers could transfer to a spur line that took them back down into Muir Woods' majestic redwoods. Learn more at our website www.friendsofno9.org

Great video!! Old #9 is beautiful, great facts that I did not know
Sounds like Oregon zoo’s Centennial steamer
Hope to she her in steam soon.
Great job!!
So what’s the eventual goal for #9?
I believe full restoration and a return to the tracks to run under her own power.
Rizzoli locomotive works did a good job on the voice of the engine, amazing video
We agree. You'll be impressed at the amount of work he put into it. Please check out Chris Rizzoli's video on creating our whistle. ua-cam.com/video/ZWi9Q--nzCw/v-deo.html
