KOH + Al and water
Переглядів 31 тис.14 років тому
Putting some KOH drain cleaner grains on aluminium foil and adding water to grains. Reaction is really exothermic and it boils the water. It products hydrogen and potassium aluminate. Reaction goes something like this: KOH Al H2O = 2 H2 K2Al2O4. You shouldn´t try this experiment without proper safety. Please don´t breath the steam from the reaction because it has small amount of hydroxide disol...

The hydroxide should have been dissolved in water. You can make up to a 50% concentration lye, which would get hot but would not boil. Then drip the lye onto the aluminum foil. You never add water to dry sodium or potassium hydroxide, as you risk some violent splattering. In this instance, the boiling probably launched a larger amount of caustic into the air.

According to wikipedia, aluminium acetate is water soluble. That may be Aluminium subacetate, which is normally water insoluble.
