Dancing Ladies of Hollywood (1930s-1960s)
A slideshow depicting a variety of dancing Hollywood ladies, from the 1930s-1960s. Each image capture is accompanied by the actress/dancer's name and the movie at the bottom of the screen...
I don't necessarily have captures from their most famous routines, and not all of the ladies presented here are known primarily as dancers. But there's still an interesting mix.
**Originally I had intended to use the third movement of Chopin's 1st Piano Concerto for this, but there was potential legal issues so I switched to an option from UA-cam's Audioswap.
Cyd Charisse, Moira Shearer, Leslie Caron, Julie Andrews, Ginger Rogers, Rita Hayworth, Eleanor Powell, Ann Miller, Vera-Ellen, Gwen Verdon, Marge Champion, Mitzi Gaynor, Debbie Reynolds, Judy Garland, Carol Haney, Peggy Ryan, Harriet Hoctor, Shirley Temple, June Haver, Virginia Mayo, Betty Grable, Sheree North, Audrey Hepburn, Ruby Keeler, Joan Leslie, Margaret O'Brien, Milada Mladova, Dorothy Dandridge, Lucille Bremer, Susan Luckey, June Allyson, Gracie Allen, Joan Crawford, Marjorie Reynolds, Kay Thompson, Ann-Margret, Lucille Ball, Barbara Hancock, Angela Lansbury, Patrice Wymore, Liliane Montevecchi, Rita Moreno, Lana Turner, Gina Lollobrigida, 'Micky' Jones, Norma Miller, Willa Ricker, Ann Johnson (she's the one in the foreground in the image from Hellzapoppin'), Doris Day, Betty Hutton, Alice Faye, Betty Garrett, Nanette Fabray, Joan McCracken, Jane Powell, Vilma Ebsen, Chita Rivera, Shirley Maclaine, Paula Kelly, Paulette Goddard, Dee Turnell.

Several women were shown repeatedly. Mostly MGM. They weren't the only studio that made musicals.

So many of these women were shown repeatedly. I saw only two pictures of my favorite musical star Betty Grable.

The use of screen grabs instead of production stills yields some fresh impressions of familiar scenes. Bravo! One small correction: at 7:58 it's Eleanor Powell in 'New Shoes' from 'The Great Morgan' (1946). The number had been cut from 'Honolulu'.

Very nicely done showing the various talented "dancing ladies"......they sure made the musicals during those years so enjoyable. Thanks for making the past available for us to reflect on it now.

Great video. Thanks! Although she wasn't known as a dancer particularly, Deanna Durbin had a really comical dance sequence doing the "conga" with Charles Laughton (of all people) in "It Started With Eve" from 1941.

Thanks! And that's something I want to see. I'm more familiar with Laughton's work than with Durbin's, but just picturing the two of them together is making me smile.

Where are Tilly Losch, Jane Powell and Dorothy Dandridge?

I'm glad you got Dorothy Dandridge in there. Except the shoes held her back, I think, she did well with the phenomenal Nicholas Brothers.
