Unseen Warfare as edited by St. Nicodemus of the Holy and revised by St. Theophan the Recluse.
This spiritual classic was written by Lorenzo Scupoli, a sixteenth-century Venetian priest. Immensely popular in its own day, it eventually reached St. Nicodemus of the Holy Mountain, who first recognized its immense spiritual worth, and later, in the nineteenth century, St. Theophan the Recluse, both of whom edited and translated the work. Rich in its references to the teachings of the saints and Fathers, Unseen Warfare combines the insights of West and East on that spiritual combat which is the road to perfection and the stripping away of all that militates against it. St. Theophan wrote in his foreword, "the arena, the field of battle, the site where the fight actually takes place is our own heart and all our inner man. The time of battle is our whole life."

Early Christian Writings - The Didache - 120AD

“Granting the general authenticity of the Greek work, the time of composition must be at least as early as the first half of the second century. If the Teaching is older than Barnabas, then it cannot be later than A.D. 120. If both are from a common source, the interval of time was probably not very great. The document itself bears many marks of an early date…” (Anti-Nicene Fathers, Vol 7. pp. ...

There is not such language as "Slavonic". It is "Old Church Bulgarian". That's all !.

John , I am interested in learning Church Slavonic Language and I am very much enjoying the lesson. I have a prayer book in English and Slavonic, a Slavonic only copy of the Gospels, Holy Trinity’s Grammar of Church Slavonic, and the small English/Slavonic dictionary they produced. Do you have any other suggestions?

Hello Liz, I following comes to mind. I would highly recommend that you practice the "6 Psalms" (Sheshti Psalmi) found in the Book of Hours in Matins. These prayer Psalms are read on Saturday nights with all the lights off. This is the traditional starting place for learning Slavonic. Furthermore, learning the opening to the Hours are also good but I would have lessons with your Regent/Regentsha as you can fall into bad habits early if you don't have guidance on pronunciation (this is a distinct language). Slavonic is easier in some respects to Russian and other slavic languages as unstressed 'O' do not become 'a'. It is also better to read slowly than fast with mistakes and it is always better to re-pronounce a word correctly. It is a great sin to knowingly not do so, as you may have changed the meaning of the word by misplacing the stress. Liz, you have put in my mind to record our Regent (Graduate of Moscow Seminary) say the 6 Psalms to learn from. I'll try and do this in the next couple of weeks. In Christ, John S.
