Geophysics: 3D GPR Survey to Locate Voids Under Asphalt in North Carolina
Pyramid performed an extensive 3D ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey across an asphalt parking lot to locate possible voids beneath the pavement. The survey was performed by establishing a 5-foot grid across the site and running GPR scans in both the east-west and north-south direction. The resulting data were modeled and analyzed by 3D processing.

This presentation provides the results of a geophysical investigation using electrical resistivity to examine the subsurface surrounding a sinkhole in Tennessee. The location was a karst environment where a sinkhole had opened up in a dry retention pond, and resistivity was used to determine its cause, depth, and lateral extents of any fractures, collapse features or ravel zones.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful presentation. My question is did you use any geophysical method other than got?

Why you used feet and not meters since it's an International accepted Unit.

Seriously did you ask that question? Imperial unit used in US, 6ft is only 2m, its more convenient to use meter as unit when its deeper.

Can GPR detect the degree to which the gravel has become clogged? Our septic field is 46 years old, and is now clogged. One pro says to use hydrojetting to clear the pipes. Another says that won't help if the primary problem is that the gravel has become clogged. If the gravel is not clogged, it will be distinct from the soil/earth, so it seems they (and the pipe) would be visible on the GPR viewer. If the gravel is clogged, it will still be different from the soil/earth, but less different - the distinction will be harder to detect. Would it work to say: If the gravel is 100% clear, the contrast will be ___. If the gravel is clogged (0% clear), the contrast will be ____. The contrast is ____, so therefore the gravel is __% clear. Rocks of various sizes would be distributed throughout the [soil/earth], but I'm hoping if the analysis is done over a large enough area, it would be possible to ignore sections with significant rocks.

I suggest everyone interested in Resistivity and IP methods to check out the "electrical resistivity Tomography (ERT) - from zero to hero" playlist which goes through theory, software, etc. It is on ONE GEOSCIENTIST UA-cam channel. Also check that.

Interesting study. I would like to know, when modelling your res data, do you use a least-squares inversion or a robust inversion? I have noticed that the least-squares is most common, however the robust inversion is said to better display geological contacts or changes as it preserves bulk features. Any comments on this?

Thanks my friend for this video, it is very good, but i have a question for you, i have a 2D parallel profile of ERT, i want to create a model of 3D by combining these profiles, for to get a good visualization of the site interested. Can you help me how to do that....

Advanced Geosciences, Inc. (AGI), located in Austin, TX, provides Earth Imager 3D resistivity data processing software that can be used to combined parallel 2D lines and invert them in 3D. I believe the data must have been collected using their SuperSting earth resistivity meter in order to use their software. You can contact them at www.agiusa.com/index.shtml

Also check KD Jones Instrument Corp. They are now located in WI and have several AGI instruments, Their prices are better than AGI for rental. AGI is great but they prefer to let others deal with rentals. Great companies
