I'm Jake O'Neal, and I make 3D animated explainer videos that strive to be accurate and smart, but also entertaining.
How I reconstructed the SR-71 Blackbird (in-depth research, 3D modelling, animation, and more)
The process for making my artwork has become quite involved, and it's my pleasure to share it with you. At 55 mins., the original SR-71 cutaway explainer video is my longest, most involved work yet!

Leakage zones …. this plane amazement never ends
Where can I find this video in Spanish?
I don't know why, but this makes me proud to know how to drive manual transmission. A dying skill.
Wow Jake, that vid was truly incredible!!! I wasn’t specifically searching for it, but YT knows I like planes and flying. I also like science and technical reference vids, so they sent me your way while I was watching RC plane vids. While I’ve always been a fan of the Blackbird (who isn’t?) , this vid was absolutely incredible. The level of detail and full understanding we all have of this aircraft and its systems is way more than any of us could ever have hoped for, short of actually training to become one of the pilots. I can’t even imagine how many hours you spent on this. It’s got to be the most amazing reference vid I’ve ever seen. Unbefuckinglievable!!!- please excuse my French Canadian. Not only and I going to sub, but I’m going to tell all my friends that love aviation. I never even heard about your channel but I can’t wait to see what else you have on there. Thank you so much for what you do. It’s above and beyond what could be expected.
Sir may I ask about an idea video for you ? Is there anyway that you can make a video of WW2 U-Boat Sub Pens? Like K-1 & K-2 ? On how it is latex out and how it works ?
I love this for some reason it's so relaxing and it doesn't let me take my eyes off of the vd.

I have no receipts to show but I bet this bird could hit mach 3.6+ maybe even 3.7 in the right conditions. The limit was skin thermal heating not power, such an early lifting body design. Might even have been a wave rider but I'm not positive I don't have the data sheets. I won't go into exhaust additives and other non-structural RCS reduction techniques, I'm drunk.
Make one of the Hindenburg, plz
I never understood what is the use of background music while something is being explained. Imagine a teacher turning on background music in class... it is just silly. And mostly, as here, the music is just boring noise. Leave it out and the video is markedly better.
It's to cover the awkward gaps in audio between speech segments that you'd be complaining about without music. Basically, you're going to complain, I just have to decide what part it'll be about.
"I know that I am above average, talented." Watch this to the end and you understand what an understatement this is...
Awesome presentation
Great video~!
Another awesome video! You get in so much details! Things I have never read or seen anywhere else.
The linen covering the wings was placed so that the threads formed a 45° angle with the axis to diminish risk of tearing when the wings were subjected to some stress.
Always impressed by Your work...👍
The fact that I've found your videos through multiple disparate subjects is a real testament to how great of a job you're doing. I love your stuff and they're incredibly informative.
Absolutely incredible but I was wondering is a cup holder an option ?...incredible piece of engineering
Outstanding presentation throughly enjoyed this thank you.
Video ideas: helicopter, hovercraft, WWII Battleship, aircraft carrier
I tend to re-watch your every video at least three times... Once alone so I can learn stuff and once with my kid so I can explain stuff to him and the third time to find answers to questions he pops when we watch together :) Thank you for this!
Thanks
So how these these timbers formed into their desired shapes ?
Im an electrician and I just woke up from a strange dream where I was in this large warehouse and my old classmate who was autistic built an engine and I had to make it myself too. It was strange so I jumped outta bed dazed, and immediately after taking a piss searched this video
This made me appreciate my old POS manual. Amazing!
Bravo!!! A really amazing educational exploration of these ships. The rendering was perfect. Very detailed, but also very logically presented, with astute use of layering to help orient the viewer to the overall design. I feel that I could visualize a walk-through in my mind, retaining a good bit accuracy due to your efforts. Keep these coming, your work is wonderful.
Wish there were time to read so many intelligent comments, over 3,000 to date!
Great Video
I fr think they got a ufo and back engineered it to this beast
Yo that’s crazy
Awesome video!!! now I can confidently say that I can fly an SR-71.
Tht was awesome. Love this plane, Dad was a pilot, so cool to know all the components and how those engines work. Learned alot about air mesh and shock waves. Thanks!!!
Amazing
After seeing Ryan Preece flip his car at Daytona and walk away was incredible. The days of having "Tiger Tom" or Laughlin or the others build your car are long gone. These pieces are carbon copys of what the guy next to you has. Can only imagine what they will be 20 years from now. Again, very good video.
F = for front. Just in case the driver forgets where to sit!!!!
Perfect work 👍🏼
Masters of utility
Did the video go over how they went to the bathroom?
Nice video, would have been cool to see animation of a twincharged (turbo and supercharger) setup
If this was from the 60s, imagine what the government has today
WOW !!!
Such a beautiful piece of engineering.
Astonishing
Great visualization and explanation! Thanks a lot!
Sick model bro! Great job!
The “Engine Control Module” is the real mystery! Most of us understand everything about this video, but how the ECM does its things sounds still like sorcery.
Seat of ease is a cool name for the toilet
Thanks for showing and explaining 👍 The radio is just an example, but here it's an amateur radio transmitter for VHF (144 MHz) and UHF (430 MHz). A small detail, but found 🤣
Absolutely brilliant thank you
I come from a family that has an Engineer and Blacksmith ties to the 1920's through the late 50's with the Great Northern RR in MPLS/St. Paul, MN. Fantastic presentation! Wish I had this information when Big Boy 4014 came to St. Louis, MO. What an achievement of great power and majesty of the rails!
