    Setting up the monitors was the most difficult part configuring Hyprland. Reading the monitor positioning starts at 0x0 pixels from the top left corner, it becomes easier to adjust accordingly. hyrctrl monitor all is your best friend here. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, and keep pushing that quality.

      @@felipefmavelar lol hard to say. This was recorded using a series of keyboard macros, so the actions are performed unnaturally fast. The refresh rate of the monitor is 240hz while the recording was in 60FPS. I’m not certain of the precise reason, but I’d guess that a combination of these factors is what’s causing the video to appear this way.

    Windows has a way to spread the update delivery similar to torrent downloads. This is to reach faster downloads. There is an option to allow this behaviour. The IPs are then probably other windows installations in your area.

    Windows sends some data to 3rd parties that do ad tracking and fingerprinting out of the box. You can check that out for yourselves, using a tool like wireshark or fiddler everywhere. So privacy wise, it's a nightmare. If you want to prevent Windows from spying or sharing your data to 3rd parties, you can use a tool like O&O Shutup or Portmaster. If you don't really need Windows and don't want the headache, just use Linux. It will cover most of your needs.

  • @qwerty-password
    @qwerty-password 3 дні тому

    Yes windows opens more ports by default, only the 0.0.0.0:portnumber listings are actually open ports. Normal linux distros like debian opens 0 ports by default. You are confusing connections with open ports, either intentionally or not.

    • @RudyBleeker
      @RudyBleeker 3 дні тому

      He literally said those open ports that are listening are probably nothing to be concerned about, as they're services used to maintain the system. The issue here is with the outgoing connections, the ones marked as ESTABLISHED and TIME_WAIT. Those are connections made to outside IP addresses sending or receiving undisclosed information, even though the user never asked for it.

    • @qwerty-password
      @qwerty-password 3 дні тому

      @@RudyBleeker im critiquing the video being misleading because the focus is not on open ports, its on connections. The connections marked ESTABLISHED and TIME_WAIT are not open ports. I was annoyed it said open ports in the title and then in the video talks about how open ports on Windows are harmless because they are there for administration purposes, and then about general connections not actually open ports. Regarding open ports: If this is a fresh install and windows was set to open ports, that is a major security concern. You might say it's fine on your home LAN, but if you bring it to a cafe on public wifi that's a entrypoint for hackers. ANY open ports is not good security and should be disabled (for general PC users). Regarding the other connections: Windows is spying on you, there's no privacy on windows. We all know that. I've not had windows on my own personal hardware since I've had my own laptop (nixos btw). I'm not shilling for microsoft, I'm annoyed that this video is misleading especially for something presented as something educational. Btw if you are really curious what it's doing I suggest using wireshark on windows and seeing what's up. It's probably encrypted but it's good education

    • @super4nonymous
      @super4nonymous 3 дні тому

      Thanks for the info. I respectfully disagree, the video title asks which OS opens more ports on boot; and not only is this answered in the video, additional information is also provided 🤷‍♂️

    Selecting Hyprland in the desktop profile comes with the Arch ISO, and git comes pre-installed? I just installed a preconfigured Ubuntu 24.04 version of Hyprland, and the install wasn't so straightforward, and was very cumbersome. I am considering coming to the dark side with you all, for a better HL experience. I have windows 11 installed for gaming, would I need to select the drive partition for installation and Linux will take care of the grub itself, or is there a specific step to enable duel booting Arch and Windows? I appreciate any time you have helped this arch noob

    • @super4nonymous
      @super4nonymous 3 дні тому

      @@Web-Dev-Codi If you’re going to dual boot and you don’t have a drive dedicated to installing Arch, you’d probably need to partition manually, which could result in lost data if not done correctly. If you do have a dedicated drive, Systemd (or grub) can be configured to do what you’ve described, but it may not be as simple as selecting an option and may require editing configuration files or entering a series of commands. TLDR: if you’re not prepared to spend 12+ hours fixing things, it’s probably not worth it. I would try setting up a dual boot VM first to ensure everything works properly before doing it on actual hardware. And definitely back your data up before any of this. Good luck!

      After some thought, is this actually faster immediately after installation before rebooting though? If I want to get from archiso to HyDE with as few commands as possible. Wouldn't I need to install paru / yay and then run paru -S hyde-cli-git and then hyde-install? Whereas by cloning the HyDE repo, It's the same number of commands as installing yay/paru, and yay/paru are consequently installed with number choices. So it's one clone of a repo, then 1/enter 2/enter, etc.
