Sienna hybrid camping vs. Prius camping
Hello campers! Ever dream of upgrading to a hybrid Sienna from your Prius? I tried one out for you! And, it’s easier to remove the pesky second row than I thought- I’ll link to a video in the comments.

Prius v (station wagon) camper
Переглядів 30 тис.3 роки тому
I love how my new (to me!) Prius v has more space - both storage and headroom- and safety features than my former Prius. The “bed” isn’t as level as my 2012, but I’ve adapted it. It’s a 2016 Prius v, trim level 5, with the Advanced Technology Package. (Forgive my blooper re: the desk/dining tray; it attaches to the steering wheel, not the dashboard!).
Favorite camping and backpacking stove
Переглядів 5113 роки тому
This lightweight, easy to use stove creates a mini-campfire for cooking. It’s fueled by little twigs (mini-logs that create maxi heat!) so no need for fossil fuel. Full disclosure: your shiny camping pans will acquire a smudgy black patina, so I store in a plastic bag to keep from rubbing onto other items. #zipstove #sierrastove #campstove #priuscamping #biolite #camping #priRV #backpackingstove
Simple fabric & Velcro window coverings for your car or van

Create no sew fleece or felt window coverings for your vehicle in this very unprofessional (I left Velcro off the supply list!) but hopefully somewhat helpful video. Privacy, darkness, and stealth for camping, napping, or living in your vehicle. . #imnewatthis #vanlife #carcamping #priuscamping #hotelprius #priRV #carliving #carcurtains #vanwindows
My Prius Camping Setup

I love camping in my PriRV! Here’s my setup with easy essentials for comfort and privacy camping (or living!) in your tiny RV, be it a Prius, car, van, or SUV. Links to items featured and headrest drawbridge instructions are below. Thanks for watching, and happy camping! Mattress: I stacked 2 thin ones because I already had them, but this one is thick enough on its own: amzn.to/2NflGux Motion l...

Another option with the middle row seat is to simply move that one on the passenger side all the way back and you have a nice little "living room" area to relax, set a table in front for your laptop or something else. It would provide much easier access as well.
👋👋👋👋👋👋👋🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍The Best Car Ever I Have !!!!
Toyota made a big mistake when they stopped making these Vs.
wtf didnt even concentrate on the bed LOL
I have a 2012 Prius V and am ready to roll. Had a set back due to an unexpected hospital stay am now two months out today from being given a colostomy. I did a trial run yesterday and am ready to finally get off on my Prius Glamping Adventures.
I hope you heal well and have a wonderful journey!
@@ericabrown5025 Thank you - we are trying an overnight so hopefully it goes well.
Great info, thank you! I’m currently deciding between older Sienna and Prius V (and Lexus RX 400h), so this helps.
The small middle seat can be remove so you have easy access to the front seats. You may store it at the rear side panel of driver side.
Good to know, thanks!
You should test the Chrysler Pacifica they are also hybrids plus all the seats fold in giving you more room
Really trying to get my window coverings to stay on - how on earth do you get the velcro to stick to the car plastic?! Nothing will stick to mine.
Sorry I didn’t see this sooner! Nothing special, I just used self adhesive Velcro. Maybe try alcoholing the surface first, and not in hot sun?
Best I’ve ever seen thanks so much
Aww, thanks!
It’s a Toyota!!!!There is a piece of material that flips up to cover the gap when the third row is stowed. Yeah the middle row not coming out is a “trade off.” I hope you had a nice trip.
Awesome video, I hope you’re enjoying your trip! Now here’s the real question…. which is better?! Does this car make you want to switch over to a mini van? Currently looking for a Prius v because our minivan feels too giant when driving and parking in cities.
My husband is retiring so if he’ll be joining me camping, we may need a van for the two of us!
What an awesome video! Looking for one now- Thank you! Also shoutout to your hubby for getting you that GPS for you to camp on your own with and be safe, what a cute couple you guys are!
hello friend its been like 2 years since u posted how u been!!! i have aprius tooo
You can turn off the prius beeping when reversing
Yep I second this! There’s UA-cam videos showing how you can hold a button in a certain way when turning the car on that silences the beeping feature so you don’t have to worry about it!
Good to know!
Thank you, I’ll try it!
nice I want a Sienna to do the same
Great video. Very helpful - especially the drawbridge!
Awesome!
Thanks!
There are many great videos on Sienna camper conversions. Start with Eric Loves Earth. Personally, I like the kitchen by the side door, not the back. I don't want to have to exit the car to cook a meal. And with the side door kitchen, you can still cook outside the vehicle if you prefer, but you're not stuck with no options. I have both a Prius and a non hybrid Sienna. I definitely prefer the space the Sienna offers. As far as needing the climate control... I wouldn't have that if I was tent camping, so I can deal with heat by using fans and camping in higher elevation during summers.
Yes, Eric has some great ideas! I’m more of a minimalist, due to my backpacking past and needing a bed the full width of the van once my husband retires and joins me. Camping in a hybrid has spoiled me- in addition to heat (I often camp in subfreezing temps), I rely on it to cook food, play music, and recharge my cameras, flashlight, phone & iPad. When renting a non-hybrid van on a different trip, I felt kind of deprived!😂
This is great (and wow, what beautiful scenery) and very informative. I always enjoy watching your videos!
Thank you!😊
Thanks Erica. I can't afford one but have really wondered about the inside.
Glad it was helpful!
Also, I averaged 34mpg on my 800 mile trip.
Here is an excellent video on removing the 2nd row of seats! Not a task for a rental car in an airport parking lot, but great advice if you buy one. ua-cam.com/video/24cYWBiTUwY/v-deo.htmlsi=NoCRMGRs83RhO4R4
Can you climb from the back / bed to the front from inside the prius ? Safety issue 3/16/24 .
Yes! I’m tall (and out of shape lol) but I’ve tried and while not easy it’s very possible.
Your voice is PERFECT for ASMR! I see you’ve not posted in a while. Why don’t you try ASMR? I’m playing your videos in a loop to help me sleep. And from your info, I’m pretty sure a Prius is what I need.
I just posted a new one, sweet dreams 😁
What your is this prius? So cool
2016 Prius v, trim level 5, with the optional Advanced Technology Pkg.
You mentioned an emergency button? Can you tell me how to get one of those? Love this video.
Sorry not to reply sooner! I was referring to the emergency button on the key fob, that makes the car alarm sound.
@@ericabrown5025 No worries, you can always reply when you're able! That makes sense. Hope you're having fun in your travels.
Had my ‘17 for five years now. Never thought to move the front seat forward, the rear seat back and pull the headrest to get a flatish sleeping area. My height is against me but I’m wondering about a chaise lounge arrangement by leaning the back seat back as far as it might go. It’s a sleeping position I’ve used in the family room so might work on a long drive when some nap time is needed. I suppose it could be used on both sides rather than fiddling with attempts to level those fold down back seats. I’m 6’5” and have a long torso. While this car never turned up on any “best vehicles for very tall people” lists, it’s a champ as a tall person vehicle. Also very streamline in design (excluding the somewhat stuffy looking back end). Mine is red too. Lovin it.
You're kinda my hero rn...
Aww, thanks!
Beautiful set up. Make sure you don't block the vent at the front side of your back seat, near the floor. In the space where you covered it with 1/4 inch plywood. This vent cools the large battery.
Good reminder, thank you!
Great seat up! I always forget you can take the head rest of but nice set up!
Very clean and tidy. Great ideas and inspiration. Thanks a lot. Happy travels.
Thank you! You too!
VERY NICE
I have a prius V 2015 level 5, that power drivers seat without a memory thing is why I don't move the driver's seat to use that space. I so wish it had memory! My bed is the same as yours, i've been at it 3 years. I find the inability to get out of bed without bending my legs to be a problem (I have MS spasms) I built a platform to compensate for the not flat thing and used the space under the platform to store the kitchen stove. I carry more gear than you and use a camp toilet under the head of the bed. My platform has a hinge/drawbridge that opens so I have access to the flushing toilet without leaving the climate control and safety (dry) of the car.
Thanks Diane, always interesting to hear about different setups! I considered a platform to level the bed out more but didn't want to lose any headroom because i'm so tall, or lose easy access to the "basement". I'm impressed that you have a toilet!
Perfect just what I need 😊
Howdy, I’ve been recently looking to buy a Prius V. I love your setup. From what I’ve been hearing is that these vehicles start going downhill around 150k miles with EGR/head gasket issues and eventually around 200k they need a completely new engine. Now I don’t know how true this is because I haven’t gathered enough info from enough people but I’m curious if you’ve experienced any of these issues?
Hello! Mine has about 75K miles and no mechanical issues so far (knock wood!). I’ve seen debate on the Prius Facebook pages about EGR issues, etc. I’m not too concerned because Consumer Reports rates them as among the most reliable vehicles you can buy based on their surveys of owners.
@@ericabrown5025 thank you for your response! It’s tough finding info about them so I feel it’s best to ask people’s experiences directly! I hope she keeps going strong for years to come
Awesome set up, thank you for sharing!
I love your solution to the seat gap! I'm using your design when I'm ready to do my first car camping trip! Stay safe smart lady!💖
Thank you, happy camping!
