Hey there, coop. Square up to your target. It's safer for your shins if you miss cause it just goes between your legs. Also, it's more power if you bend the knees as the sledge crosses horizontal. Basically, it's a pendulum. Pendulums have the most kinetic energy at the bottom, so if you square up and swing over your head, lower your torso using your bent knees while the sledge is fully extended in front of you and you can maintain maximum power for a longer time. The wood will notice the difference. Also, it's far more energy efficient to keep your arms tucked in for the "swing around" and just let your wrists rotate, and then extend your arms as your approach the wood.
