  • @misledpoet

    When I figured out how to wedge back in 2015, I simply considered it as loading my hamstrings before initiating the pull. The term wedge was only made apparent to me in the last 6-12 months. Prior to this "technique journey", I would stiff leg my pulls and muscle up the bar. I got pretty good at it, but my deadlift stalled at around 600lb, so I needed to learn how to be more efficient at my pulls if I wanted to get better. I vividly remember when I first got the technique right, and 500lb had broken the floor using a stiff bar before I even initiated the pull. I felt like I had unlocked the DaVinci Code that very rep. Your explanation on how to do the technique correctly is a lot more simple and straightforward than how I explain it. I would tell people to see-saw the bar with their hamstrings, using the knees as the fulcrum, while simultaneously using their lats to hide their armpits with their upper arms.

  • @Dave_Gunderson
    @Dave_Gunderson 16 годин тому

    Did some deficit pulls and noticed I had to be more intentlful on the wedge to not fuck myself on lockout. Does this mean deficit pulls could be useful for learning how to wedge more efficiently or am i just being an asshole with them? 🤔

  • @Mechanicallifts
    @Mechanicallifts 17 годин тому

    Serious question: is giving a single solid hip “pump” to unstick/pull slack off the bar and off the ground not a preferred method of doing the DL?

    • @Dave_Gunderson
      @Dave_Gunderson 16 годин тому

      Not dr Seth here but personally I like to do multiple hip pumps and think a hip pump is fine for the following reasons: one it gets me hype and kinda locks me in mentally (knowing that in three pumps I’m going to have to pull), two it gives me a dynamic start (stretch reflex type shit), and three it allows me to know that my slack pull is good and the upper back / hip position is ready to pull. Hope this helps (and also hope someone corrects me if I’m just fucking crazy 😂)

    • @dr.sethalbersworth
      @dr.sethalbersworth 16 годин тому

      With my levers, multiple pumps helps me find more tension/better position. For those who aren’t built like a meatball, it’s not necessary.

  • @MatteoFitness
    @MatteoFitness День тому

    Common now, Doctor. You know better than that. The JM press does NOT load your triceps any more than the others. There's more weight on the bar but the tension is the only thing the muscle knows. Whether that's achieved through leverage or more weight is irrelevant to triceps growth. It's not like your triceps are magically stronger when you do JM presses so they can all of a sudden lift more weight.

    • @dr.sethalbersworth
      @dr.sethalbersworth День тому

      No shit - you’re missing the point here. Expressing strength is more than mechanical tension. If that was it people could train for powerlifting meets with machine work only and win.

    You might have addressed this in earlier videos. But I noticed that your hand placement when you squat is “uneven”. You’re right hand is basically all the way to the plates and your left is like midway. Is that because of like a shoulder injury/tightness?

    • @dr.sethalbersworth
