So full of inacuracies I had to stop. Smith & wesson not weston. The 45acp resulred, not the 1911 .... that came later. Model 10 is m&p not victory.

I worked for a couple of security agencies in Florida, Tampa Bay area, for a long time many misinterpreted chapter 492 regarding what security carried, it stated Security could only carry 158 grain lead bullets. So many agencies and security guards purchased lead round nose bullets, one agency we were issued 158 grain semi wadcutter hollow points +Ps aka the old treasury load. Fast forward, by the 1990s another agency I worked for were using corbon ammo, the 125 grain jhp +P+ at 1250 fps, which is low end 357....They worked fine.

I've read that most gun homicides are committed with a .38 police special. Popular gun, reliable and there's a lot of them.

Some more trivia.... The word "Moro" means "Moor," in Spanish. That tribe had been converted to Islam, by Muslim missionaries, a long time ago. And the Moors, of North Africa, were the only Muslims that the Spaniards were familiar with, their having occupied Spain, until 1492. So, they dubbed the Muslim natives of the Philippines, Moros.

3:10 Here's a bit of historical trivia. Ever wonder why U.S. Marines are called "Leathernecks"? It's because, in their first military action, against the Barbary Coast pirates, they wore thick leather collars, to prevent their throats from being slashed. It was the same situation, as described, here.

I was trying to find out what is the most accurate handgun cartridge. The 38 special seems to be a favorite. The 9mm might be equal or better but not many revolvers were yet out at the time I researched it. Any opinions would be appreciated. Great video. Thanks.

In defense of the aluminum Colt aircrewman they were never intended to see extensive firing they were designed to safely get through about two boxes of ammunition before a smith level refurbishment was necessary. The crucial factor was keeping the weight down. In most bail out scenarios the pistol will not even be used it's there mostly fo r emotional support.

The 9mm is a great cartridge at 35Kor so psi. Imagine if they had smg`S at the time.. Now, The .38 special is a littlebit "weaker" but has bullets from 115 to 200 grains . .38 Specials stopped guys as good as the 9mm did. Pistol rounds of most caliber, do what they do. Rifle calibers do a lot more.

The US Army was issuing 38 special revolvers to pilots at least until 1989 when I retired. I carried my personal 1911 Colt in 45 ACP not because of stopping power but because of the convenience of magazine reload. A friend of mine, who was stationed in South Korea, liked to tell the story of him shooting a man who tried to sneak into the compound. He shot him just below the knee. He stated it severed the leg except for a small sliver of skin. He always stated there was nothing wrong with the stopping power of the 38 special...

The .38 is a fine revolver in Smith and Wesson, Colt, and other manufacturers. I served in the US Army, the DIA, and with British Regiments in the 90’s. I often carried different .38 specials which served me well. No complaints. The soldier is the weapon, and the bullet is the tool. Peace all. 🇺🇸🇬🇧

.38 special was for long the police cartridge. Yes it is old, but it still works. 9 mm and .45 ACP is not much younger, they also still work. Is it the best cartridge? Of course not, it depends on what you need a cartridge to do. It is no bear stopper, .357 magnum gives you more power, .327 federal is maybe as good as .38 special. Does it matter? I dont think for us ordinary folks. It does what you need it to as long as you hit about where you aim, but that holds just as true for 600 Nitro Express. Dont worry about carrying a 38, it is good enough for goverment work, as we are wont to say down here in Southern Africa.

And the 38 was determined to be too weak, thats why thy started reissuing the 45 cal. Colts with shortened barrels. And, why they adopted the 45 ACP. Truth

Good video however, let me help you with some historical clarifications. The Victory Mod. is not a Mod. 10 per se, S&W didn’t start model #’s until 1957. The Victory is a military version of the Military & Police K frame from the early 1900’s. Yes the Victory was used until the M9 & M11 were fully issued in the 80’s by US Naval Forces. The USAF carried the Mod. 15 “Combat Masterpiece” from 1963 to 1990’s until replaced by the M9. The only things the Mod 15 shares with the Mod. 10 is the caliber and the frame. They are different. United States Army issued “pencil barrel” Mod. 10’s to their air crews all throughout the Vietnam conflict. They also issued them to female MPs well into the 1980s. Hell, the movie ‘Stripes’ got it right with the two female MPs being armed with Mod. 10’s. The picture you show of the naval aviator in the Tigerstripe flight suit with the USAF SAR crewman is actually reenactors. It’s not a real pic from the Vietnam conflict. However, their equipment and gear is very accurate. The USAF aircrew would be carrying a model 15 with the Magna grips which go up the side of the frame. The Navy pilot has a victory model in the holster. Most naval aviators carried their revolvers in the SV-2 survival vest in a pocket specifically made for the revolver. That’s why you don’t see the revolvers visible on naval air crews during Vietnam as opposed to the Air Force who had it sewn on the outside the SRU-21 survival vest. Or, they carried it in a belt and hip holster like Col. Olds.

Love my jframe. It’s the gun you WILL always have with you compared to the larger/less comfortable options. Also, unless your fighting a wrapped up Philippino jungle warrior, even .38 short or long colt have much less recoil for those aging and arthritic that will do just fine to stop bad guys.
