Hello, im new to spinning. I picked up a wheel from a garage sale. Yours is very similar to mine. Do you happen to know what this style is called ? Thats my first step in finding more information on this journey.
This specific style is called the castle or upright wheel, also sometimes called the Icelandic wheel. Mine is most likely a vintage one, not an antique. If it is ready to spin on, I suggest checking out beginner spinning tutorials, especially with regards to drafting technique. I personally learned on a drop spindle, which gave me the experience on fibre handling before I got the wheel. If the wheel is not in spinning condition (ie. needs some cleaning or drive band), or you'd like some more information specific to older wheels, I am going to point you to the experienced folk of Ravelry where I got a lot of handy information on how to purchase and maintain my wheel when I got it a few months ago. www.ravelry.com/groups/antique-spinning-wheels/pages Happy spinning!
