How to play ALT soundscape synthesizer - workflow explained
ALT is an analog soundscape synthesizer designed to expand the realms of sonic exploration, through intricate motion.
the idea behind this new ‘walkthrough’ video is to show you some of the workflow and thought process involved when playing ALT, and a few examples of how to achieve specific sounds with it.
you'll see how to easily move from an ambient sound to a more rhythmic one, making your soundscapes seamlessly evolve through different textures.
key features:
- unique, hands-on and screenless workflow - not even a shift button
- 5 voices with free frequencies or following scales to create beautiful melodies
- stereo panning per voice
- MS-20 style stereo filter
- wild delay with infinite feedback
- modulation pin matrix with 2 LFOs, a random generator, an envelope follower, and 17 destinations
- light and sound sensors to make it react to its environment
- midi and CV inputs

I love the look and sound of this synth, both. I just couldn't budget for it during the kickstarter campaign even if I was ready when the earliest-bird units were still available. I hope to get one some other time, or even a future one built on the same principles after the success of this one.

I don't think you need to know how to play one, it's so intuitive that one just needs to explore and you will get sounds that are easy to bring to life. It's an amazing instrument.
Does this artist have their own channel? That sounded wonderful but I'd love to hear her work miced better in a balanced mix. 👏

Very cool that it has no patch cables! pins, instead Are the pin insertions on/off or can I achieve some kind of incremental patching amount? i.e. matrixctrl + matrix~ in max/msp with @ramptime or @gain amounts instead of direct on/off of the pin patching? Looks amazing! Thanks for making this

I tried via my mobile phone to get the early birds but it was all the time rejected. Crazy fast people and strong internet connections (:)). I'm curious to see if it will be in the stores at some point and what the price will be.
It will be in stores next year. We need to talk to distributors and vendors before being able to determine the final retail price. Sorry about the early birds, the first minutes of the campaign were crazy!

It's a wonderful synth that is a little above my current synth budget (had the early bird been €600, I might have gone for it, and at €500 it would have been without hesitation) but I'm glad to see the Kickstarter got funded literally just within a few minutes. I hope you do really well with this one. Perhaps I'll get one some day, or whatever other synth you might make in the same vein later after the well-earned success of this one. There certainly is a market for something a little different like this, that is highly atmospheric, aesthetically pleasing even just visually, and with an intuitive user interface that puts many other synths to shame, so I hope you will also come up with more ideas or evolutions of this one in the future. congrats on the deservedly successful kickstarter guys. Looking forward to seeing some update videos as the journey to release continues. I just wondered if you have any plans for any of your cool-looking cymatic devices to come to market? An accompanying one for the ALT would be superb, maybe you could demo some you've made. I haven't even got an oscilloscope so would definitely be interested in buying one to enhance the ALT experience, especially if had the same design aesthetic.
@@enochroot9438 thank you very much for your kind words :) yes, making cymatics devices that to go hand in hand with ALT is something we have always wanted to do. it will be a long process though. we explain our vision for cyma forma and future products on the kickstarter page :)
I love how it looks and sounds. I must say I am a little disappointed the pins don't seem to come in different resistance values, as is the case with other synths using pin matrices, but I would presume that would have increased the cost hugely since it could no longer be made simply from switched sockets (which is what I presume they are). It certainly looks cooler than a matrix of buttons.
no attenuation per destination, but you do have an amplitude control for each source (column).
@@cymaforma Yes, I spotted the amplitude per source, which is also great since many synths don't actually have that, and it can make such a huge difference to the sonic possibilities.

hey there! we've been working really hard to keep prices as low as possible and have put a lot of thought into the quantities of each reward. we wish we could offer many more early bird discounts. but ALT is our first product and we are trying to keep the production as local as possible, so unfortunately this is the best we can do. I hope you understand. also, don’t be discouraged beforehand! it’s still a niche product, you can definitely be amongst the 45 first orders :)
