Hi, I'm a fencing coach from Great Britain. In 2009, I was sent by British Fencing to live and train in Bucharest Romania to qualify for my FIE foil coaching diploma. I was taught there by three times Olympian Petru Kuki and the 1995 world foil champion Dmitri Chevtchenko. Upon returning to Britain, England Fencing awarded me my level five foil coaching award. For the past eight years, I have been learning from Great Britain's Olympic fencing coach Ziemek Wojciechowski.
From 2017-2018, I worked as a ‘British Fencing Talent Coach’, running Talent Camps and helping to support the Athlete Development Programme. In 2018, I coached the winning England under 17 and under 20 foil teams at the Cadet and Junior Commonwealth Fencing Championships. My book ‘Foil fencing - skills, strategies and training methods’ was published by ‘the Crowood press’ in 2022.

did he quit?

@@johnroutledgefencing Now we know where it is. Thanks.
Great match! 👀👌🔥🔥
Seems like there's no blade contact on the last hit and Williams is clearly advancing with right of way plus he has not pulled his arm up into a preparation, so Cook's lunge is a counter-attack, the call is clear: attack, counter-attack, touch to Williams. Unless the ref saw a small beat from Cook while he was going in for the counter. You can hear that more than see it in the video so maybe that's what he called.
Super annoying screeching from the fencer on the left. Would have been better with less of that.
Pere back flick perfectly

bro my volume was so loud i got so scared
I would say, the last one should have been given to the left, since the person on the right covered his chest after the attack, implying his attack was not confident, counter attack, although he did it during prep of the left. Totally, the attack from the left looked to have more priority than the right.
oof that last call was not pleasant but a great match to watch!
Shit last call
great stuff, very fun 😄
Thanks! 😃 * love your content
@@johnroutledgefencing thanks 🙌
guy on the right seems quite fun
😆 Hi David
I dont know man, seems sturdy
Awesome
Looks fun 😂
Funny step forward, sometimes delaying a tempo: tap front foot, back foot forward, front foot forward.
David was robbed on that last point but without a video replay it was so difficult to call. Both highly talented fencers and the score line reflected this.
I’ve seen this ref mess up even with video 😅
bru the last call 💀
Yeah… it’s a spot of bad luck there’s no slow mo replay for the ref. at full speed it looked to me like maybe left fencer did attack no… but upon slow mo review it’s clearly still his attack. At full speed with no video review with a tricky phrase like that…this ref has my sympathy.
lol
Kind of interesting. I fenced competitively a couple decades ago and most directors in that era would have awarded the touch for the fencer on the right, calling it attack in prep. Right of way keeps changing!
@@kevind1183 definitely attack in prep. fencer on left was not attacking and stopped in place for too long, fencer on right took up and left fencer reacted. attack in prep right.
@@kevind1183had the right just did a straight lunge it would definitely be attack in prep but he tried to duck and cover his chest after the lunge which means it a counter attacks, therefore attack left
Nice lesson… looks to me like the full extension uses a lot of shoulder. Please correct me if I’m wrong - I’m still learning :)
Thanks! I’m always trying to get my fencers to relax their shoulder at the end of the extension. (The shoulder being down normally indicates that it is more relaxed). Having a loose arm and a relaxed shoulder is easier said than done, so it’s something we are always working on to develop.
@@johnroutledgefencing thanks for the information - your student’s technique looks great, but that’s the one thing I noticed and my coach is always telling me to relax my shoulders too and I just wanted to check. Thanks 🙏
