Episode 120 - If god exists why is he so bad at showing it?
In this episode Matthew reviews a Christian podcast which attempts to address the problem of God's hiddenness. But as you're about to hear, it descends into predictable chest beating victim blaming. This is Christian apologetics at it's utter worst. Rather than explain why god is justified in being hidden from you, this podcast tediously explains why it's all your fault for being a shitty person. And with that spoiler out the way, lets get started and have some fun. The podcast is called Christianity still makes sense and Link 1 goes to the original episode.

    Seven minutes in and already defining atheism incorrectly. Atheism is the ABSENCE of beliefs. No other properties.

      HI, thanks for listening. This is Matthew. I agree with your definition, but I do recognise that there are many, especially those philosophically trained, who say atheism is the belief no gods exist. Some even appear to take the view that having no god belief is equivalent to believing no gods exist.

      @@reasonpress2901 That would be gnostic atheism which is of course as silly as gnostic theism. Most atheists are agnostic on the subject of god(s) as they cannot be proven, but they just don't believe they exist. Atheism defines belief not knowledge.

    Considering what a colossal change in humanity (for the better, according to them) it would be if everyone on Earth could see with their own eyes that God exists, it makes no sense that God doesn't take 5 seconds out his day and make it happen. Since he is all-powerful, he could make sure that everyone sees it (including blind people) and understands what he's saying (including deaf people and in every language). It's also rather odd that it's all up to us puny humans to spread the word and defend his supposed existence.

      Thanks for listening. And yes, we agree, if their god can show up for some people, why can't he do it for all people?

    Matthew, this is my first time discovering your channel. I appreciate the time you took to think about and interact with my episode. I was enjoying it (though of course not agreeing) until you called me a misogynist. For saying my episode would help men lead their kids and wives in the Christian worldview. I have to say, that caught me by surprise. Misogyny is an anti-woman viewpoint, whereas men loving and leading their wives in a Christlike way, puting their needs first-including their spiritual needs-in a self-sacrificial way, is the opposite of misogyny. I know you don't see things that way, but this was a helpful reminder to me of just how far separated in our worldview we Christians are from those who reject Jesus Christ. All that being said, I wish you well, and again I respect the fact that you made this video and shared your thoughts. -Joel Settecase

      Hello Joel, thanks for listening and taking the time to reply, and thanks too for being gracious in your comment. The Still Unbelievable! podcast has been running for more than 5 years, it is only in 2024 that the content started being uploaded onto UA-cam and I am gradually publishing the back catalogue. Ref the misogyny comment, this accusation was made because your words leave the impression that it is the man's job, and the man's only, to teach the wife and children about Christianity, this makes the wife's position subservient to the man's. This is why you were called out on it. Yes, we certainly are very different in our worldviews and this is shown by your view that those of us who have left Christianity rejected Jesus, if Jesus truly exists as part of the Christian godhead, and Jesus truly loves us, then those of us who suffered the loss of our Christian faith while praying earnestly to him to help us keep it, are the ones who are rejected by Jesus, we did not reject him. If we agree on nothing else, it is my wish that you at least understand that. Matthew

    Genesis is entirely fiction. The earliest genetically human on this planet is at the very least, over one hundred and fifty thousand years ago. What's even more interesting is that when we trace the human female dna back and the male human dna back to their roots, we find three thousand miles and fifty thousand years separating Adam and Eve. They could never have met, much less started the human race as a couple. Genesis is a poorly written lie.

    • @reasonpress2901
      @reasonpress2901 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for the comment. We agree that the genesis narrative (especially the first half) is fiction and that any analysis of mans origins that takes Genesis seriously is going to end up with a highly questionable conclusion.

    2...our exact knowledge of how life started is irrelevant, ie, all alternatives are illogical. We can safely assume that life is the process of chemistry, ie, simple life forms, and that "time" and natural selection sculpt complexity.

  • @TheKwod
    @TheKwod 2 місяці тому

    The god concept is a fiction devoid of definition. Otoh, we can detect the universe, and the only logical conclusion we can draw is it must be eternal.

  • @TheKwod
    @TheKwod 2 місяці тому

    Q1 The universe is eternal, its existence is a mystery aka existence exists. We posit it as a brute fact, as this is the only logical conclusion.

    I've been an atheist activist for years. But how would I feel if a god showed up and fed all the hungry, housed all the homeless, cured all disease, got rid of all the pollution and proved atheism wrong once and for all? Hooray!! 🎉🥳🎈

  • @maxdoubt5219
    @maxdoubt5219 3 місяці тому

    What would convince me that a god exists? Produce that god for inspection! But beyond such objective proof, there are infinite ways any theist could convince me that their _belief_ in their god is not delusional but _rational._ If some theist prays to his gods for the power to either walk on water; float in the air; run 100 MPH; move objects telekinetically; start fires pyrokinetically; see just fine through a blindfold or just correctly ID a randomly drawn playing card one out of ten times consistently - and they do that - have they proved their god? No, only that they have acquired an extraordinary ability. But belief justified! At least until some natural explanation is forthcoming. I can multiply such examples indefinitely. But ask any theist to do likewise: give just a few examples of hypothetical discoveries; observations; occurrences that would convince them that disbelief is the more rational choice and what will you hear? 🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗It is theists who must keep their dogma compatible with any state of affairs. If you are challenged to say what you would accept as objective proof that someone's god exists, just say, "The same thing _you_ would accept as objective proof that a god _other than yours_ exists."

    I can tell you that. Leviticus talks about committing cannibalism with your own children, as punishment from God 😂 Ezekiel 37 is right out of Lord of the Rings. The Book of Jacob and Noah's Ark both belong in Aesop's Fables ❤😂 #ReligionIsFiction, Obviously
