My grandma dd similar. She used strips of heavy brown paper under both sides of seam when pressing mens pants inside out. Prevented seam lines on the outside or shiny seams. Brilliant, thanks

ua-cam.com/video/gW0UI6kI52k/v-deo.htmlsi=ZNqvQVvzLbS1nOVH Here is part 1, doing the gathering effect with your domestic sewing machine.🧵✨🪡
I learned that the correct tool was a half dowel under the fabric, but I've been using the edge of my June Tailor board to press seams without impressing the seam allowance edges. This is soooooooo much easier. I do use my board as a clapper, but, as you said, it doesn't prevent the edge impression.
@@maryjackson1194 🫶🏻✨🩷Awww thank you , Yeah this just makes everything so much easier.Yeah same, I created my own little clapper but just for seams to stay in place, it’s a whole different technique ✨🪡🫶🏻🧵🎀
I love this idea! Definitely going to give it a go. Will probably cut out a Tiny sliver of paper from the middle cut to allow room to the seam and just give the cardstock some room. Mine is super stiff and I think will require it. TFS!

Thank you, that's just the kind of easy very useful hack that I can add to my sewing repertoire :) from Manitoba Canada
I don’t want to make this because I’m feeling lazy but I know I should. If I don’t make this by the time I need to press any S.A.s open again, I think I’ll be tempted to just grab a Manila folder (that what we call a regular filing folder that are placed in filing office cabinet drawers in the U.S.) and just cut it in half. Questions:) 1. Is the fabric getting shining and the indentation two different situation that can happen individually and together? 2. If they can happen individually, would I need to purchase a tiny iron like the one used in the video so the iron doesn’t go passed the paper? Or does the shiny only happen when the iron is just over two layers of fabric (public side fashion fabric layer and wrong side seam allowance)? Hope that makes sense. Btw, thanks for the video. A subscriber shared this with me and I just watched and subscribed:) But I’m mainly interested in videos that can be applied to men’s garments, men’s bags, and men’s hats:) so hopefully you’ll make those too:) Thank you:)
Hi there, oh wow! This might sounds so embarrassing but I had to search Manila folder to know what it was and omg! yes I know and I have seen many LOL. You definitely have to make one trust me. Yes so if your iron is going to mark a fabric its best to press over a cotton instead of directly on the fabric. This tool is to prevent the shining of the seam allowances on the the right side of your fabric. You can also do this with a big iron if not going to ruin your fabric , I personally use a smaller one just for my tutorials its just so much easier. Aw that's so kind thank you for subscribing and thank to who ever sent you my video:) much appreciated. Yes will definitely try and film for Menswear , absolutely.<3 <3 <3

What a good idea! Thanks for figuring out a DYI solution and then sharing it.
Of course :) anytime 🥰🧵✂📏
Love to have this as a new tool. Can you tell me the brand of your small iron?
Yes of course, amzn.to/40mDOFP also Prym has the exact Iron x 🧵🪡🧵
That is genius! The simple solution is usually the best, and the most obvious is the one that you never think of! Ignore those negative comments, they sound like they’ve never picked up a needle & thread in their lives. It is extremely obvious what your tool is for to someone who has any understanding of sewing and pressing
That's so sweet, thank you so much. Appreciate the support 🧵🪡🧵😘💘
The question I have is what happens when fabrics are thicker than the slit? Does this let you get a crisp seam then? I've seen & used separate pieces under each side of the allowance before--but for nearly all cases this is a great idea as easier to use! But a small diameter seam roll does work too--but only if you keep the sole plate level & seam centered, the pressure is on the stitch line & the allowance is on the curve of the roll does not get the pressure from the sole plate. But this takes practice. I've even used 1" wood dowels to ensure pressure/heat is only on the seam--and a press cloth helps, too.
@@sus8e462 The thicket the fabric the slit still should be able to get under and have a good press. Of now , based ok the thicker fabric we can have a more opening for the card to go through. With thicker fabrics so many things can be challenging.🎀✨🫶🏻🪡🧵
@@sus8e462 Yeah exactly’ I have also tried that once with the wood pressing the just the seam and also used a cloth over. I have found this so easy and quick. Haven’t really used it on a tooooo thick fabric but Denim has worked perfectly 🙏🏻🧵🪡✨🫶🏻🎀
Thank you for showing. Easy to understand and I do it this way next time. The only thing I have to say is : The noise in the background are very irritating.I love the noise of a sewing machine, but couldn't stand the background noise ...

@@deannarego2283 Yes of course. I have used card from my sketchbook, you can use any paper as long as its stable. Mine is 22-23 cm length and 12cm wide. ✨From each side come in 3cm and draw your first two lines for 5 cm and then find the centre and attach together.
This is great for pressing garment seams.Thank you for showing me this. It will help when working with wool and many solids colors of fabrics. However, most of what I sew today are quilts. I'm 76 years old; and, have been sewing since I was in the Forth Grade. Because my body has changed, as I have aged, I am thinking of going back to wearing skirts instead of pants and jeans. However, I want my skirts "A" line style, eight gores (for ease in walking), and as long as my dress slacks. I have noticed that people treat me better, in public places, when I am wearing dresses or skirts and blouses.

When I took home ec classes in the seventies, we had to share one seam roll and ham between a couple pressing stations in our classroom. So, if the fabric in the seams you were pressing wasn't thin enough to flatten with the heated tip of your iron, we put a strip ( wider than the seam allowance) of heavy card stock cut from manilla file folders under each seam allowance before pressing. Manilla file folders are great for making other pressing templates from, too, like hem and pocket templates and marking templates for buttonholes, etc.
