How to Install an Outdoor GFCI Outlet and Weatherproof Cover
NOTE: The cover isn't upside down, it has different ways to feed the cable out, while in the video it shows an opening at the top what I failed to show is that there's a piece that actually covers that up. Holy cow people are eager to jump on that one. Wowie. Okay, now on to the regular description.
Today I'm going to show you how to Install an outdoor GFCI outlet and weatherproof cover. Do you have one of those old-school metal weatherproof covers from the 70s? Well get that (and probably the plug underneath) updated by checking out today's video.

    Wrong connector on rear. That is a cord connector, not a UF connector. Remove the locknut on the correct UF connector to make a watertight seal. GFCI receptacle was not weather resistant. Sticker on the side of it even told you you needed that. Cover was installed upside down. It's going to collect water, not shed it as installed. And seal of side of cover wasn't installed. Not code, but good practice. Install outdoor horizontal outlets hot side up, neutral down. So they won't short out from a bit of inadvertent water intrusion in the box. If you attach the cover with the 4 corner holes, it seals tighter to the box. And Home Depot commercial electric bubble covers are absolute garbage. Lowes carries much better quality TayMac brand for the same money

      Thanks for the comment! The GFCI clearly says WR which means weather resistant I thought. Or does WR mean something different. It also came with the cover so you’d think that they’d hook you up with the correct items in the kit. Also to the point about the opening on the top, I did fail to add the piece that closes it off keeping the water out. I updated the thumbnail that shows it installed. Maybe down the line I’ll do a follow up. Thanks again for the feedback!

    You got it upside down! Nice video, but the title is missing a 'not'.😂

      haha, technically it is BUT, there's two "outs" for the cord. One on the top (in my video) and one on the left side, which is the one I'm going to use. What I didn't show is that there's a piece that actually covers up that top opening to keep the water out too. My bad. Haha.

    Isn’t the cord opening supposed to be on the bottom?

      haha, technically it is BUT, there's two "outs" for the cord. One on the top (in my video) and one on the left side, which is the one I'm going to use. Otherwise the cord "out" would be on the right and face the wall, which isn't what I wanted. What I didn't show is that there's a piece that actually covers up that top opening to keep the water out too. My bad. Haha.

    Are there dampers that are purely mechanical valves you adjust by hand? That are not motor controlled?

    • @fixedbyap
      @fixedbyap Місяць тому

      As far as I know, they are all motorized. You may be able to rig a broken one to be manual but it won't be an elegant alternative.
