    Your home does not have natural light. For that you need to go outside. I use foldout six foot long resin tables with a roll out black treadmill mat on top. These are out on the shaded side of a building. I fill one of more tables with items, shoot them all, put the items away and bring out another batch of items. Large items such as steamer trunk are put on a large 12 foot wide rollout piece of outdoor industrial low pile carpet on the driveway. I save up my large items to shoot them all at once. This allows for the mass production of hundreds of photos of hundreds of items in a short period. The black mats will appear as a dark gray in outside light and will hide any residual shadows along the edge you may have. No messing with lighting. No heavy shadows. I use my trusty 12 year Canon Rebel 18MB camera with its kit lens, battery grip and Class 10 Card. I can take way faster and better photos than any phone.

    • @Thriftindirty
      @Thriftindirty 21 день тому

      First of all, natural light appears throughout your house through windows if you know how to catch light (and with how you boast about your camera being better than a phone im sure you’re no actual good photographer for my photography works on iPhone check out my photo by page through my Linktree 😉 I started on the phone and then got a canon again I know what I’m Doing you DO NOT NEED AN ACTIAL CAMERA TO DO EBAY ) You are doing absolutely waaaaay too much the more you do the more you spend on silly equipment to be the “best” it’s gonna set you soooo far back in this job you gotta works smarter not harder. Suuuure you can do this massive sort of setup but there is absolutely no need to confuse people thinking this false thoughts please rethink this bad advice if you think of passing it on to others. What works for you does not work for someone at a much smaller level. Using a dslr or mirrorless for this job is a waste of money when you already have the latest model phone Good luck in your endeavors but do not pass this bad advice along 🥲

      Good tip! as long as you line up your items and photos BEFORE taking the photo it’s good never just start snapping away,(photographer tips) I highly recommend using the grid on your camera or phone if lining up and angles are a struggle for you!

    When I started selling on Ebay I began as an all category seller. I soon realized how hard that is because I was spending a lot of time doing research on items I was not familiar with (Becoming an expert on everything is extremely hard). I felt more exposed to get negative feedback by not providing customers with the right information. I niched down and now I can list way faster and I feel knowledgable and more confident about what I sell. I'm glad its working for you though.

    • @Thriftindirty
      @Thriftindirty 2 місяці тому

      I agree getting into new categories can be a learning curve but taking the fear out of the shipping is honestly the biggest hurdle, you only have to know enough about the item to sell it! I mention in my videos a whole bunch of times how I have no idea what this is but it sold for X amount. I also don’t dive into everything and anything like I tried out printers didn’t like all the things you needed to test and I won’t pick them up again. I would say if you wanted to go back to it if at some point it’s not working for you dive into easy to test categories like small kitchen appliances you only need to make sure a Kitchenaid functions, so minimal things like that but I do agree that if you are not prepared to learn or like to learn new things it’s not for everyone. I love to learn so I think that’s why for me it’s not too bad! Thanks for watching! 🫶🏼

    • @fercules2
      @fercules2 2 місяці тому

      @@Thriftindirty The shipping was just a small part of it. I've shipped golf bags, coffee makers, dvd players, fragile collectibles etc. And I do love learning about the items too but its just how time consuming it can be. If anything, I think selling everything is way more fun, but sometimes it would take me an hour just doing research and listing the item. On top of that, you do spend more time shipping them too. It is a great advise to add one category at a time if you're not confortable like me. I do like the efficiency and the confidence I have selling things I'm knowledgable about. Good video, keep it up!

    • @Thriftindirty
      @Thriftindirty 2 місяці тому

      @fercules2 I do agree I’m shipping two golf clubs right now and making a video for it and it can slow you down to ship all this stuff but that’s where organization is key I make sure to have a surplus of boxes and materials it can be annoying especially like today for me frankenboxing 🤣 but yes much more fun 🤩 I agree if you’re just staring out ( it took me two years to get to an everything seller) you will be more profitable. This whole business is a huge learning curve not only do you have to learn to run the business but work on the business as well! Thank you I hope to inspire others little by little to make better profits of just one category isn’t enough especially in the areas people live in too! I live in Californias Bay Area so it’s a high cost of living so just one category for me wasn’t enough to make this a fulltime career!

    • @fercules2
      @fercules2 2 місяці тому

      @@Thriftindirty It was the opposite for me, I started selling everything when I started 2 years ago and my sells went up when I niched down to mostly men's clothes. Some sellers, like Carrie at home, go as far as just selling jeans and they make a profit over 300k per year. So I think it's more about finding what works for you and make it efficient.

    • @Thriftindirty
      @Thriftindirty 2 місяці тому

      @fercules2 ooo yes men’s clothes is still some of the clothes I’ll get at a good price! I definitely see that point of view but I’m the type of person that can’t leave money behind when I know it can make me money but I totally get the niched down experience especially if it works for you!

      I’ll definitely make sure to show them closer next week I’ll finally have all my live platforms on one device so it will help immensely thanks for the feedback! The main takeaway is forsure the brands not the items themselves as I mentioned some ornaments or plush don’t do as great as others but the brands of the plush and ornaments are key to know what to be on the lookout for and then comp before you check out!! 🔑 just because I picked it up now it may not be great later on! But I really apprepcye the feedback to improve these lives for you guys as much as possible!

    For yard sales in a big city, I have no time to visit all of them. Would you suggest upper middle class neighborhoods (mostly seniors or older families), Suburban family neighborhoods or Lower class neighborhoods for finding the best items?

    • @Thriftindirty
      @Thriftindirty 2 місяці тому

      I have the same issue as well, I would go to the upper middle class first if I had to choose, they tend to give out better deals since they don’t have the needs for the items and they don’t see as much value, I’ve had better luck there but that’s not to say that you shouldn’t go to the suburban family or lower class neighborhoods if you can fit them in your route or if that’s the only ones that weekend. But if you can focus on the upper class neighborhoods I think you will have good luck at sourcing more for a cheaper price!

      @@Thriftindirty I'm really enjoying your content. I've been doing this part time since March and I've been blown away about how easy it is and how much money I've made. You say something a bunch of times in your videos - something like, "I can't believe this isn't catching on..," or something like that. First off, figure out a catch phrase as a hook. that would be cool. But secondly, that is exactly how i feel when I'm telling a story about getting a digital camera for $7 and selling it in literally 5 minutes for $130 - and I've told that story 10 times. I bought some Allen Edmonds shoes yesterday. Never heard of them. Looked them up. Bought them for 14 and sold them for 50 in 30 minutes. Now I'm learning that I didn't price it high enough (lol). I'm shaking my head and almost embarrassed to talk about it. It's crazy. Just like that mouse. Keep it up.

      I love that!!! That’s what I say all the time!!! I’m shocked everytime when a find an item that sells for so much and I’m like whyyy do people pay for this?! But we just found a glitch in the matrix we gotta take advantage and the bins is great for low COGs!

    • @blueskyflips
      @blueskyflips 2 місяці тому

      @Thriftindirty I find I dont have luck on low cost days, so for bins I cant really do the super low cost, high sell through, small profit method. I find getting the more expensive $25 items on day one of bins that sell for much more, ends up being more profitable. I'm Canadian, so our $25 bins is probably equivalent to the $15-17 bins in USA.

    20+ years selling on eBay. I keep pool noodles in stock all the time. I pick them up at yard sales and .99 cent stores. One good use is for shipping pictures, cut down the middle and arrange around all four sides. Also works great on coffee mug handles and corners of many bulk shipping boxes.

      That’s awesome! Picking them up at yard sales is smart I love it! I’ve seen videos of using them for pictures I’ve yet to sell something like that so one day! They’re so versatile and it really helps in shipping peace of mind

    Thrift stores arent for you to make money They are for poor people to be able to afford clothing Resellers are terrible people

    • @Thriftindirty
      @Thriftindirty 2 місяці тому

      I don’t see a security guard at the door asking how much you make to let you in or not, thrift stores are for everyone 🫶🏼

    • @dumpupgirl
      @dumpupgirl 2 місяці тому

      @Thriftindirty yeah, just because they don't stop you doesn't mean it isn't immoral Of course the thrift store isn't going to stop you from buying stuff there, cause they assume that people are kind and buying stuff they need

    • @Thriftindirty
      @Thriftindirty 2 місяці тому

      I dont see how it’s immoral to buy something to sell again all big box stores do it 🤷🏻‍♀️ I bring people closer to their favorite brands, someone in a rural area might not have the chance to find this piece and now they can. kindness has nothing to do with buying from things stores to resell, thrift stores love resellers we provide to their causes 🫶🏼

    • @dumpupgirl
      @dumpupgirl 2 місяці тому

      @Thriftindirty it's immoral because you and all the other resellers are making thrift store prices rise quickly making it so much harder for poor people to find affordable clothing And if you think it's okay just because "big box stores" do it too, then you don't understand that they are even more immoral And you aren't doing anyone a favour. You aren't "bringing people closer to their favourite brands" when they could've gone to the thrift store and bought it for themselves if they needed it. You take from the poor so you can profit

    • @Thriftindirty
      @Thriftindirty 2 місяці тому

      Thrift stores actually ruin it themselves by pricing up the wrong items how are the supposed “poor people” you speak of to buy those things so no your argument doesn’t stand. You buy from resellers everyday welcome to capitalism. You don’t understand that by us saving these pieces for people that actually want them we save them from letting more waste build up in not saying I’m saving the planet but if you don’t see the trash problem as a bigger problem then I think it is you who is the wrong here someone from across the country that’s looking for this pieces or even across the planet we ship internationally but I guess you just don’t get how immoral “moral jobs” can be 🫶🏼

    How do you determine where is best to sell the item your listing? eBay, posh… etc? TIA

    • @Thriftindirty
      @Thriftindirty 4 місяці тому

      I’ll try and cross list as much as I can to each platform but for Poshmark if it’s going to be more than 5 pounds after shipping I won’t list there since you have to upgrade labels and that comes out of your pocket. I list everything to eBay and just about everything to Mercari as well. Mercari and Poshmark also don’t have some categories like eBay does so that tells me just not to list it there! And of colors all clothing to Poshmark and Mercari as well it can do well! But in short everything goes to eBay and then I determine the others by those things! Thanks for asking and watching! 🫶🏼
