Переглядів 44 тис.13 років тому
Plants Are Cool Too! "The Pale Pitcher Plant" (Video 1) exploring the habitat, life cycle, morphology and ecosystem of Sarracenia alata, a species of carnivorous pitcher plant. Hosted by Dr. Chris Martine and featuring Dr. Maggie Koopman (Botanical Society of America members and professor of biology at SUNY Plattsburgh and Eastern Michigan University, respectively). SUNY Plattsburgh and the Bot...
12:50 I thought that he was going to say that he's going to have a bug sandwich.
Great content!
wow so cool, I love pitcher plants!
oh hey funny running into ya here too wonder if it'll be a trend lmao
Nice to see David Cross supporting education for our native plants, very cool.
Not gonna cap bro you gotta make some different with the front theme cringe as fuck buddy 😅
bro it's 11 years old lmao
wow, all those ants is just incredible
I'm constructing a small bog in my yard. This video as well as many others have awesome helpful information. Thanks!
I was listening to your interview today November 10, 2021 on NPR with Brian Lehrer. The woman that was being interviewed with you , how do I connect with her. Thank you
I grow these in a kiddie pool distilled water 2" up the sides of the pots, 50% peat moss/50% perlite. no dirt.. cheap and effective $20 for the pool at Tractor Supply. be sure to cut drainage holes and keep them unplugged so it doesn't flood your plants in a heavy rain. throw in a submerged bladderwort for mosquito larvae control.
Who's here from Dr. Douglas' class
I just discovered this location and since I live only 20 miles from there, it will be a monthly expedition AT LEAST! Absolutely beautiful place.
Plants are COOl!!
do we know how these microbes get into these pithers?
How exactly does burning it down help the forest?
nooooo don't cut the healthy ones, cut the bad pitchers
Any episodes coming up?
anybody notice the drosera in the background?
which time?
Mysterious Hanger They are wild in the southern USA.
ever heard of sarracenia purparia SSP purparia it grows in Canada!!!
i have the plant
Thanks to the Missouri Botanical Garden for linking to this episode with a QR code on their pitcher plant display!
OMG! I live a mile from here (and just got back from a walk, where I saw that the pale pitchers are starting to bloom.) Cool!
I just discovered this place too and I'll be back quite often!
@@TheOldestSoul I ussaly go there and take some of those plants and then I sell them
@@potatopoii2720 that's called poaching and against the stated rules at this location.
@@TheOldestSoul ahaaaa to late then.....
@@TheOldestSoul but im a milionair now :)
We have pitcher plants in our greenhouse. My research professor told me that our old greenhouse attendant was watering them with regular tap water (with a high mineral content) and that the plant stopped producing flowers. They then switched to deionized water and they have been producing pitchers ever since.
10:20 :O
whoa
6:37 how is a larvae supposed to thrive there inside?
Episode 4 is now posted: "Desert Blooms and Marathon Moths"... pollination bio in the deserts of New Mexico.
Love it! I am so glad I discovered this show :D Thanks for making it.
When they're opening the plant it sounds like they're having nervous foreplay haha
Hello! We just finished filming episode three on skunk cabbage. Should be posted by early May, 2013.
his voice sounds like sky does minecraft
This show is great, but are there going to be any more episodes? I keep checking back!
A plant's leaf cannot get more funny than Sarracenia's. Looks like small trumpets sticking out of the ground.
Episode Two - Fossilized Forests! has now been posted! Check it out.
I hope you guys make so many more videos I want to show this to so many kids.
Grow a pet TickleMe Plant and watch how the leaves fold and the branches droop when Tickled! Search pet TickleMe Plant
i want a venus fly trap but i cant really find out exactly how big they get
There is another Species of Pitcher Plant no mentioned here. The Northern Purple Pitcher Plant "Sarracenia purpurea."
WTF...cutting leaves to a carnivorous plant is the same as closing the stomac of an human being!! You are not plant lover!
Lmao you're so stupid. The plants have like 10 pitchers but maybe you grow stomaces
Can't believe I didn't find this channel long ago! I hope there will be more videos soon. I wonder if the Botanical Society offers internships for recent college graduates w/ a BS in Biology.
Epic intro
Dr. Chris is cool too!
the details make it!
Do you have the locations of these places? Not just the city/state. Thanks.
That's great! Plants are cool too! (and also friendily cats!). Wonderful resource for my class in Plant Sistematics in Brazil and already forwarded to them. Looking forward to see more cool plants! Thanks! Marccus Alves
