I am very familiar with Romaine Brooks. I was going to write my MLA thesis on her self portrait of 1923. I went another route though. That portrait is so mesmerizing and I think extremely elegant. Brooks’s early life was so challenging but she became very imp 44:33 ortant in 1920’s Paris and a pivotal figure in the salon of her lover, Natalie Clifford Barney. On a more humorous note, Brooks crisp white shirt in her self-portrait foretold the importance of this fashion staple which has stood the test of time. This was a great lecture.

I'll tell you what social justice is. It's when we stop treating "minorities and women" like children and we stop throwing money and special privileges their way because of the mean old white man. Guess what folks, the mean old white man gets up the same way everyone else does and he faces the damn problems in life as everyone else. The difference is, the mean old white man doesn't go around whining about how tough life is, we just get up and quietly go about our responsibilities like every person should.

Oh my God! The lord preserve us from this vehement US academic feminism. These guys sing only one tune: ALL WOMEN HAVE BEEN REPRESSED AND SUBJUGATED SINCE ANCIENT TIMES. Simply, untrue. People like 'Dr' Moffitt will reconstruct and manipulate virtually everything to suit their political agenda.

Andrew Gibbon-Williams: If you can't imagine being raised with the idea that only men can paint, and wishing you'd been told about the thousands of women artists over the centuries who could and did paint, then fuck off and get out of the way.
