Fuego Eruptions
In February 2024, I, Jerry Mock, had the opportunity to spend 5 days on Fuego volcano in Guatemala leading up to the Cities on Volcanoes 12 conference and a further 2 days after the conference. Part of my work at Boise State University is capturing the eruptions from Fuego on video so we can decipher the connection between what the eruptions look like and what our other sensors are picking up. While we were up there, I also collected data to make 3D models of the crater and surrounding facade, for change detection purposes.
This video was made with Clipchamp.

The shot from above Fuego's crater is amazing. Fuego is one volcano that I enjoy watching because its eruptions follow an incredibly consistent time schedule and it puts on a spectacular display of low to moderate explosive eruptions which are best enjoyed at night. Great footage!

Glad you enjoyed it. The proximity warnings were going off on the drone.

Awesome caps, and video drone work. Iceland volcanic activities reeled me in hook, line, and sinker. At my age, learning about these events have been one of the most captivating era of my lifetime. The most I've seen of volcanoes was black & white reel to reel films, but these video drones just amaze me. Just stick to the facts, skip the dramas, and you will do great (as you've started here). TY for the video, and the background information. Stay safe, and have a blessed year.

Further question, Will your data and findings aid life saving/rescue/avoidance of catastrophic events in the future? Is there a social value component to your thesis information?

It's unclear at this stage of my research what social benefits it may have once it's complete. I hope it will, but there's no clear answer at this time.

Because of the conversations we have had in the past, I understood most of what you were discussing in your proposal talk. I look forward to seeing and hearing about the data you will collect and analyze in the future. Good work Jerry!!
