Late spring on the White River is a season of remarkable transformation. As the ecosystem emerges from winter, it displays spectacles that have to be seen to be believed. For anglers of this fishery, it’s one of the most productive times of the year to tempt trophy brown trout with floating fly patterns. Within this niche group of passionate anglers, enthusiasm and comradery are at an all time high. This film reveals one anglers gratitude toward the fishery that he lives on and the community that has given him a new perspective on fly fishing.

The late May caddis hatch is becoming more prolific every year and my brother and I decided this was the year to push ourselves to capture White River flyfishing like it's never been seen before. New experiences are something I’m always chasing, so when I had the opportunity to join and film a good ole fashioned raccoon hunt I had to take it. It’s a fascinating sport that requires more wisdom and discipline than it gets credit for. Conveying that in this video was a welcomed challenge and I hope I did it justice. Enjoy!

Thanks! Most of the cool hatch footage was taken Late May/Early June of 2022, but it varies year to year. Mid May is generally considered the start of the caddis hatch.

I'm so tired of fishing a tailwater. Little Red River. It's changed quite a bit since I started fly fishing it in the early '70s. The floods have smoothed the riverbed. Heavy didimo in many of it's shoals. Traffic. I'm thinking of moving to Mountain Home to live close to the White, and, more importantly, to be close to the spring-fed streams in the Missouri Ozarks.
I love Appalachian banjo. Can't stand Earl Scruggs style banjo.
