Wait... Is it Finally Starting to Look Like A House?! // Off Grid House Build
Roofing Panels - CHECK
Eave Trim - CHECK
Rake Trim - CHECK
Now, let's start making this house look like a house with some walls! Woo!
---------------------Welcome to Our Maine Homestead!
We moved onto 200 + acres of raw land in northern Maine in September of 2018. We’re building our off-grid homestead, literally, from the ground up with our own four hands.
Our goals are to share our simple, self-sufficient, and sustainable lifestyle using traditional, old fashioned on purpose, and natural methods the same way our grandparents, great grandparents, and those who came before them did.
Along the way we hope to pass on the best parts of this lifestyle to our daughters and to all of you. We want to share the experience of how we live and the challenges we face as we build our dream homestead, raising animals, growing our own food, and working on the many projects required to live this lifestyle.
We’ll show you, not necessarily how to do things, but how we do things. We’ll also share video series that go deeper into specific aspects of our lives and what it’s like to live the way we do in the 21st century.
There’s a saying, “There’s a first time for everything.” Here, there’s a first time for EVERYTHING, because almost everything we’re doing here, we’re doing for the first time.
While our life is simple, it’s not always easier. It’s a lot of hard work, but we were raised knowing that nothing worthwhile comes easy and as you’ll see there are way more positives than negatives.
Thanks for watching!

Can you dehydrate in an air fryer clicking the button for dehydration?
How do you feed started daily is it always 1 to 1 ratio of flour and water!? I'm a beginner so please be patient with me
Sol cool ! Great video !!
❤❤❤❤❤
This is the first video of yours I’ve seen and noticed this is 3 years old . However, I’ve been seeing this guys book around and wondering if it’s worth getting. Are you still making cheese from it and would recommend it??
Interior walls look great.
Very nice, thank you!
i have watched quite a few of these videos and this is by far a no nonsense one very understandable leaving you feeling like you can go and do this Thankyou
What month did you find yours?
Following your journey and wishing the best! We are looking for property in maine!
Nice 😊 curious where do you find out about the auctions & info
perect bro !!
What is the date of this?
Where can I get barley seed I'm in the kingdom of Eswatini
I built my Log Cabin, all the interior walls I used 1 x 6 , you always stager your seams, and never, I mean never face nail the 1by, Nail into the Tung hide the nails, only face nail when no one will see them. Why face nail when everyone will see them. Take 20 min. and build saw horses so your not working on your knees, don’t make sence
No one will see any nails or seams on our 1x t&g. That's the beauty of wrap and strap style! Addressing your other concern, we have saw horses but this system we have is much simpler so we choose to work on our knees. It's also a great system for getting lots of squats in throughout the work day so win win!
Great job ya'll! Questoin: Is the house oriented North/South (i.e., front to south, back to north)?
It faces South!
Wow the house is looking great! Oh and I loved hearing Emry playing with what I will assume is the same dumptruck my little man loves as well ❤
Yes! It is her mighty dumptruck :)
Excellent progress! I can't wait to see it in person a week from now. At this rate, my basement apartment will be ready by Thanksgiving. 😊
I wish I got your husband ‘s skills and talents , i could see it’s become a beautiful house now after the front wall installed, I can’t wait to see you are move in , great channel ❤❤
i saw the thumbnail this morning and went "Oh! They have roof AND outside walls going now! UA-cam's algorithm wasn't putting your stuff in my feed, so I'd missed a few episodes. It's looking great!
This house is going to be amazing. I'm watching 3 different post and beam style builds. 2 are from a barn kit style build. I like your build the best. The others are following blueprints and you are following a jumbled mess in Eddie's head 😅 I love it. Wish your vids were longer. But that's ok. Wish you guys the best. Stay safe and get eer done!
Interesting how you are working from top down and inside out thank you for sharing your journey we have land in maine and will be building soon
Great job still watching here in the UNITED KINGDOM
You guys are making great progress. Excellent craftsmanship, as usual. At this rate, Nick and I will have a dry place to sleep during Squarebody weekend. 😊 Sleeping pads/bags will suffice. Big 🤗 and ❤ to sweet Emery! See you all soon.
You both are doing a fab job, what a great family you have also.
Hello, Don't you want to grow your UA-cam channel? I analyze your UA-cam channel. Your video content is so good but you need to update your keyword section area. I mean SEO ( search engine optimization ) then grow your UA-cam channel fast. I also like your video. Your video is so amazing. I'm an SEO expert. That is why I inform you.
That looks like fun! I don't live that far away and never knew about it!
Why does your daughter have a satanic symbol on her shirt?
It's a witchy souvenir from our trip to Salem, MA recently... not to be taken literally or with any seriousness :)
@@OurMaineHomestead I understand. I'm not trying to be rude but that stuff can cause some real problems. Praying for you all. I do like your show! We homestead in Maine also. ❤
Good morning guys and wow you guys have been some busy bees lol getting a lot done and hey just trial and error this is you guys first house and you're going to have a little bit of are here and there and recuperate from it in a positive way and gain more knowledge as you move forward. Especially you guys are doing all this work by yourself man you guys got to be very proud of yourself and be very happy with how much that you guys have accomplished in this build. Have a blessed and safe weekend and see on your next video
I just found your channel. Its looking good. And yes I subscribed. Lol watching you from Nova Scotia
Are you gonna be living in it this winter I hope because honestly that foundation shouldn’t go another winter unheated it’s not good for it and will fail if unheated again.
That's the plan!
Going back to your on your roof Eddie listening to your plan don't you think there's going to be sun melt during the day it seems like it may freeze on your roof and turn to ice on the whole roof being it cold under ty hr metal roof hope im wrong. Its looking great what you two have done .
This is my favorite kind of your videos. Thank you!
Nice job with the garden. We are in Greenville and are also building our own house, enjoy seeing the progress!
Good day guys . Really like how you guys are doing the vent roof with the insulation. Great progress from the last video I seen. Have a blessed week
Good morning
Love to see the progress! It’s looking great so far! We are trying to go off grid and are documenting it on our UA-cam channel. Can’t wait to see more videos and possibly get ideas for something we could do to our cabin!
Thanks for taking us along
Great progress!
Enjoyed watching your progress! Glad to see you back on YT. How is the permitting process in ME?
I enjoy watching your dreams come true. Your baby girl is adorable ❤❤
I was going to make dandelion salve today... but mine have been soaking in oil for 2 months. I don't want it to be rancid, so im scratching that idea. Thanks for the information.
When you milk sheep, how do you time how soon is safe to take milk, after ewes have just had lambs, and which are still young? Do ppl wait till lambs reach a certain# of weeks old?
I typically wait until the lambs are about 4 weeks old!
Great job! You two are an inspiration! We also built our own house in Littleton Me, Saunders homestead
Saunders homestead is our channel
Looks great, you two are an inspiration to everyone going down this path. We have built our house ourselves too, not too far I think from you in Littleton Me. We would love to chat sometime
❤
Wanted to ask how milking the sheep was going? I wanted to eventually switch to hair sheep for milking so just wanted to check in to see if it was going okay.
When we are in the habit of milking, it has been going well. Our hair sheep are not high dairy producers so it isn't large quantities but they do well!
We missed the auction this year but would’ve loved to run into you folks. Enjoy this beautiful weather! 😊
There's always next year!!!
I'm going to the amish auction north near the border tomorrow. I'm excited! I've been forbidden from buying anything living though! ;p
🤣🤣🤣 We won't be making it to that one this year, but have fun!!! Let me know if you get anything good!!
