7:00 anyone else spot the licc here?
This is such an outstanding performance of a masterful piece
5:59〜 1st Cornet❤❤❤❤❤❤ The melody played by this cornet is a beautiful expression of Mr. Spark's love and genius!!!
WOW!!!!!
Does anyone have a list of which percussion instruments are required? The Athena Brass is excited to be performing it this summer in Mito City, Japan. I want to make sure to have everything we'll need, thanks!
Lovely piece. Deserves to be better known.
The bass section sounds like Westminster abbeys organ in all it’s glory Amazing performance looking forward to next few weeks at the regionals 2024
Excellent Band
Just tremendous
What was the sop doing? Were they asleep?
I heard them ngl. Bit quieter but maybe that's what they wanted?
@@OliverCookson-z5r I don't have the part in front of me but I'm pretty sure the Bs at the end were meant to be accented FF - it's supposed to be incredibly loud. I imagine it's the recording's fault rather than the player's.
@@kaiblack4489 ye that sounds about right. Just realised looking back on my previous comment that it looks like i'm trying to start an argument, so my apologies about that
@@OliverCookson-z5r No worries that's what makes the internet great x
I miss playing euphonium so much, it's such a wonderful sounding instrument.
Same!
Wilby likes fourths . . .
This is probably really good
Senior cup 2023!
Astounding performance. I wept.
Exelente interpretación
ITS OKAY but brass band has to progress past these fuddy duddies Sparke, Graham, Cooper, the occasional old Eric Ball piece if it is going to survive.
I believe brass band is progressing, no? There is a lot of exciting new material coming from 'new voices' like Neurohr, Dobson, Waespi and many others. In that sense, too, it is a blessing that the brass band movement has made and still makes a lot of progress outside the UK, challenging and breaking through not only the status quo of the traditional big-named bands but also challenging the concept of the traditional brass band piece. But Sparke, Gregson, Graham, et al they remain the classics and can co-exist nicely alongside all the new stuff. It's the variation that keeps it fresh and exciting.

Sparke: altijd prachtig en altijd verrassend! ♫♪
One of my favourite pieces A test piece that is challenging but such a delight to an audience unlike so many "creaky gate" works.
heard this the day I was driving to a park, after telling my parents I received a 1 on a AP computer science exam, and my mom was mad as hell, it was a warm summer evening though
Nostalgia is the best
Sensational..when our Norwegian friends blew all away. This has been returned to so many times over the years, sensational performance, great band and the master Howard Snell.

Brilliant
This is so lovely
okay, that was a complete change
In love until the tbones overblow out of their god damn minds in the middle. Sheeeesh
I cannot express how much I am wrapped up in this entire performance, except for those trombones decimating the soundscape after the cornets, trumpets, and horns carried the melody with rich and expressive tone.
@@jaket5267 Unfortunately it's the brass band way to blow the shit out of things. I know this because I'm a trombonist. And I don't subscribe to the 'play it as loud as possible' mentality. Quality is everything.
The free play towards the end can blow the minds of traditional banders! :)
Amazing playing!
Thanks for the upload
My first National Finals piece in the 1st Section with Kidlington Concert Brass under Jeremy Wise in 1992 at Wembley Conference Centre. We came 4th that day...... good memories! 👍
My first national at Wembley too with Northop silver band, still love this piece after all these years
Awesome Eikanger..one of the finest ensembles of my generation..Norwegian Brass Banding is a benchmark..Fabulous..👏😁x
horror stories
Love this piece, the middle “movement” is beautiful. Do wonder if it would have been better left with the original quiet ending dying away to nothing though.
That was Gollands plan at first. But he had to change it for the competition...

Best performance of this I’ve ever heard. Fantastic.
