Whether a flower arrangement, a basket, a piece of writing, or the nation we wish we lived in, the things we attach to can also be the vehicles for learning to let go of fixed notions and feel every bump in the road. A brave and direct talk, filled with unvarnished honesty. Thank you.
Is he claiming to be enlightened? If he is then I'm a rocket.
Don't know mind.
Who is enlightened?
Beautiful man. Thank you.
Brilliant, heartfelt, meaningful talk,
Please do not delete my comment for telling the truth here . I do not like zen I do not like Rinzi I do not like Soto. I went to both in NYC and iam not trying to be a jerk but with out writing a book here I really can’t stand ither one. However I do like Shugendo they say it comes from Japan but most likely is a folk Taoist import and even if its not it creates a symbiotic relationship with nature so in theory it could lead to spooky abilities but mostly gives a natural high of sorts . The rinzi had a nice gift shop where I got some agarwood incense but other then that they both suck at least here in NYC and yes I have a very good experiential and experience with meditation and like the historical Buddha very much but over given it a chance for over 10 years and iam out. I was homeless in NYC and could meditate for hours a day I spend 2 hours in zazen I walk out feeling like I need a shot of Dilaudid. I have sever nerve pain hit those wood blocks one more time and tell me to stay still, and iam stealing that cool looking talking stick. I get more out of simply reading zen mind and then donating it to a library. And then it’s like taboo to talk about Satori or the scientific aspects of what occurs to the nervous system through yoga. Good grief. I’ll stick to animism and shamanism it’s a shame because you don’t want tho through the baby out with the bath water but I can’t associate with these groups. Just to simply practice right speech The other things one of the monks complained to me I was breathing to loud well I did have a cold but anyway the soundless breathing things is a esoteric concept where you breathe mostly through the dantien through moving your muscles around your umbilical area…. Yea this monk definitely without a doubt did not know that. Staying still in meditation is a by product of reaching deep states of meditation smacking blocks together saying be still may make someone feel important but that’s it so next time someone says zen is good for nothing to sound enlightenmened they are right but not in the way they usely will be. The odds of finding someone in a zendo with insight into sunyata ehhh I don’t know maybe it’s possible but that’s about it it’s possible.
Before enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. Jack Kornfield. Life carries on.
5:55 humpf the embarrassed laugh says it all. We are all human we all transgress. That is why forgive all - just once more.
Master bless me please
Brilliant! Thank you, Bokushu.
These are important rich talks. The difficulty of maintaining the precepts needs to be discussed more openly like this. Otherwise we risk destabilising guilt or self righteous judgement. Thankyou Bokushu.
Thank you.
This I like. Thanks.
As soon as he said "my ronouns are..." it became evident that this is definitely NOT authentic buddhism.
Thanks for your kind words in these difficult times. I remember practicing with you in Portland in the early 2000's and wanted to say hi!
This is so condescending for working class people in this country who have real struggles. Bernie sanders has a great analysis of what went wrong - Musho unfortunately is full of moral superiority & contempt for his less fortunate neighbors who are Not driven by greed & fear
🙏
❤❤❤
Wonderful, thank you!
So happy to have this talk suggested to me in my feed! Wonderful talk Fugan, thank you!! The natural imagery very fitting as I work gardening on the seashore overlooking the tidal flats in Dennis on the Cape. 🙏
Dzisiaj nawet pedauy "poważnie" myślą o dzieciach😂
I liked the story where a. cat is welcomed into the monastery and meditates with the monks every day.
Thank you, Seiryu! 🙏🏼
not coming thru... no picture... almost impossible to hear... alas
mostly can't hear the dharma talks well this year... sound is consistently low... maybe fix? 🙏🏻
Brilliant! Thank you. 🙏🏼
☺️👍👍🎨🥰🙏🎉🕯️
Enkyo…your gentle analysis of Zen concepts, all done with care, humor, and wisdom, always gives me pause AND makes me realize how fragile this life is. As a caregiver, I feel very focused on ME, how this affects ME. And I have to remind myself that I have to offer myself to my wife with courage rather than regret for our situation. I wish my ‘practice’, which, regrettably, sucks, were more at the top of the pyramid for me. I’ll try to do better this year. Thank you for your wisdom.
Fusho…can you supply a link to some of your filmmaking? Thnx!
Deep bow
Great stuff - this. Love the pace!

Rather, in Zen practice, what you are looking for is to realize yourself as a self that does not distinguish between subject and object. You must go from your self which you accept unconditionally right now to the self that is based on the universal root. - Joshu Sasaki Roshi [Zen Notes XX, No. 5]
Beautiful intellectualisation there Chuck. I think I was truly 'actualised' today. I have quote on quote - 'observed'. And I was both actualising and observing. Lol
and me saying this now is trying to 'intellectualise' it, but so are all of the words you just spoke. Much love.
I needed that teaching right now
🙏
Yes… appreciate your life…pure freedom…☺️👍👨🎨🎨💫
