The first parts are exactly what Katori Shintō Ryu teaches on Sojutsu so I love it :) Meyer also teaches that low guard for using against Longpoint in his Halberd part. Thanks for the videos.
it's a very short partisan blade... and big hamp
Thank you for this video💚
Amazing work. I'm the process of putting together my own training manual and this is a huge help!!
Nice drill, already putting it into practice
Great - I hope it serves you well !
Nice, is this from Marozzo?
Movements like these can be found in Marozzo and in Manciolino - though how I do them is mostly my interpretation :)
Thanks for making and sharing this. FYI - New Subscriber.
You're welcome - and Welcome :)
This video is excellent!
Thanks Zyl!
Great tutorial!
Cool, I was curious as to how these were used!
Sweet!
The Falso looks like it could be used to knock the opponent's buckler out of the way, in preparation for the next attack - was that the case? (apologies if you have covered this in a different video, I am new to your channel)
usually all of these three cuts are aimed at your opponent's sword hand. The falso doesn't have enough power to move the buckler out of the way, but you might hit the buckler hand also.
No co ten to tam dělá?
sp CAMPINAS GRATO
"guard will weigh more and slow the sword down"... Yes and No. It does increase the weight but it also shifts the center of mass further down which alters the balance and IMPROVES rotational speed. This makes the blade FASTER for parrying and compound actions like cutting attacks with feints. This is a good trade-off for a very small decrease in initial thrusting speed.
Amazing :D Thanks
Excellent!
Thanks 😊
Have had 3 darkwood rapier over 15+ years. Only broke one blade. They have improved and fixed the issue with tang.
how much does it weigh? I know the site says 2.5lb but I'm sure that's an estimate
mine is 1100 g but every rapier will be different because of which blade, pommel and furniture combination you choose
@@TheSchoolofHistoricalFencing thanks! I was actually looking to get the same options so this is a good indicator! Where is the point of balance if you know?
This was a great demonstration, watched every one, thanks
Great video! Thank you very much, it is helpful <3
I am loving your instruction man.🙏
thanks glad you like it :)
Thank you so much for your hard work and for sharing these lessons🙏
Happy to help :)
Excellent review, thank you. I've had my first Darkwood 3-ring since 1997, still have the original 40" DelTin blade on it and have only had to replace the grip. Since '97 I've also purchased from DA - a 16" dagger, an 8" ring dagger, another 3-ring with 42" bated blade, and a 2-ring swept with their 40" DA3 Spada blade. And I picked up a custom paired rapier and main gauche set for my wife at Estrella War in 2017. Darkwood has amazing gear for SCA and HEMA at very reasonable prices, their quality reflects that. Cheers! ~ Antoine de Vallier, SCA Outlands (Colorado, USA)

thanks :)
This is great. Unable to get to a club to train right now, and the internet has a shortage of good beginner-level videos to break it down Barney-style. Thanks!
Great that this helps !
Can you do a version of the same exercises with il segno drawn on the floor...that would be great...even a look from above would be great guys.
I'd love to draw the segno on the floor here, a few painting and floor repair tasks to do first. For now, if you'd like to see the steps with footwork diagrams have a look here - ua-cam.com/video/kXY2N4JEOAI/v-deo.html
@@TheSchoolofHistoricalFencing Thanks guys!
Excellent video! I especially liked the intro.
Thanks! Glad you like it.
Thanks! This is really helping me with the basics of rapier!
Great, glad it's working :)
Really Nice work out incorporating ballistic stretches as a warm up. (fire hydrants, lunge and turn) 30 Second Timer?
yep that was what I used :) glad you like it
@@TheSchoolofHistoricalFencing I'm old (45) enough to have figured out a few things and have an appreciation for those that demonstrate they have put thought into their routines.

Happy to help, glad you like it :)
nice video! if someone‘s interested in the same for Salvator Fabris, you can check out this tutorial here: ua-cam.com/video/k7_OWtfhshw/v-deo.html
That's cool, but it is not HIIT, it is simply interval training. HIIT implies HIGH intensity, close to maximum effort. Although different protocols exist, this is common among them. UA-cam HIIT (meaning most vids you see if you search for HIIT) are in 95% of cases just interval training.
Which is why I talk about how hard you should be working at the start of the video ( 90% is the target I mention) - if you're going as fast as you can go doing burpees it is high intensity.
@@TheSchoolofHistoricalFencing Walk the talk :P
I am about to order this sword, but it seems that people at Regenyei really do not recommend this for tournament at all. Do you think the trnava medium can be used for tournaments? Whats your verdict?
it really depends on the tournament. I would happily use mine, however to be so flexible it has to be lighter and therefore less durable. If you enter tournaments with a high level of force, there is an increased risk of the sword breaking. Personally, I don't enter tournaments if I am not sure the organisers and competitors will be held to a high standard of control. TL:DR the Trnava medium can definitely be used for tournaments.
Harry Potter
Thanks for the review. Just starting out. Is it worth buying a standard of a short rengeyi at first, or spending a little extra on the model you describe here.
The short feder is also a great option if you are on a budget or just want something for drills and casual sparring. If you are getting the short feder get the medium flex option as the light doesn't handle as nicely. If you can afford it the Trnava is better but Regenyei are having some production issues with the light flex version at the moment so might be easier to just get the short feder for now.
@@TheSchoolofHistoricalFencing thanks for speedy reply.
Was that vampire music really necessary?
In Spanish fencing you fence to win and not to be injured in the process. In other words, everything goes.
Everything goes except being injured, so not really "in other words", exactly xD Sorry, nit-picking mood.
I've repaired 4 Darkwood tangs now, all broken in pretty much the same place on the tang, different types of blades too, so the earlier tang issue was across the range. Haven't heard of many newer ones breaking so perhaps they changed their production. A number of Darkwood's I've seem also seem to have a softer temper meaning they require more attention to nicks and dents they acquire easier. But, the balance and feel of the Darkwood blade I've tried has been rather nice. Good vid mate 👍
Would you say there is anything preventative that can be done to an older Darkwood bated rapier blade to reduce the chances of this, i.e. annealing the tang partway into the ricasso area, or rounding the corner where tang meets blade?
Nice looking rapier
Nice review; I've been lucky enough to use these swords (supplied by Gindi), and concur with everything you've said here :-)
Looks great! What are the PoB and vibrational nodes for that custom?
PoB 8cm from the cross. I haven't tested the vibrational nodes - I just go by feel in the hand generally.
New mic??
yep, spend money use good equipment. Hopefully it's better?
Will you do something with the rotella?
I'd certainly consider it. Do you mean partisan and rotella or sword & rotella?
Love your partner's socks!!
