How hard is it to get to Everest Base Camp?
I have some shots of the white fluffy dog . The route is beautifull
Everybody focuses on the challenge of Mera Peak but forgets that the journey there is stunning!
@@Earths-edge in first trip I was focusing on the challenge , as you said. On my second I've focused on the people and the beauty of the place. I have another trip planned for fisrt week of may ( I wish it would've been sooner , but competitional season is on untill first days of may ) and I will take more shots of the people .
those landscapes from 27:09 *.* great video, thank you
Stunning, aren't they?
Great to see Freddie and Doctor Johnny
Pair of legends 😎
Freddie is one of those rare people who instantly fills you with joy. His energy is contagious, and his sincerity is something you don’t encounter often. I’m grateful to call him a friend after our unforgettable Kilimanjaro adventure.
We couldn't agree more! Thank you so much for all of the wonderful footage ❤
Go on Freddie!!!! A great guy... and we had the pleasure of sharing his birthday with him on our expedition too.🙂
Aw that's such a special experience! He deserves to be celebrated :D
I so enjoyed this! I just returned from Tanzania about a week ago. As a female climber on Kilimanjaro, I was acutely aware of the lack of female Tanzanian guides and porters. In fact, one of the central reasons I chose to climb with the guiding company I did was because we had a female guide, which is very rare. With that said, to our one female (American) guide, we had a Tanzanian support staff that consisted of 36 men. Don't get me wrong, they were incredible! But I couldn't help but notice how few women there were performing these roles on the mountain. With that in mind, I frequently asked my local Tanzanian support team about female guides and porters. Not only did I witness them being incredibly supportive of the female porters and guides, but they said as much. Because it is such a lucrative position, I would love to see more women get these kinds of jobs. I also would loved to know more about how Earth's Edge supported these female porters and what impact this had. In other words, are these women featured in the film still employed as porters? Did this opportunity open doors that were previously closed? Thank you for sharing this!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful question and for sharing your recent experience on Kilimanjaro! It’s great to hear that you prioritised climbing with a company that had a female guide, and your observation about the overwhelming lack of women in the trekking workforce is both accurate and important to address. We, too, are committed to creating more opportunities for women in the trekking industry. As you noticed, it's rare to see female Tanzanian guides and porters on the mountain. Part of the challenge is that many women choose other industries, such as safaris or hospitality, due to the long hours and physical demands of trekking. Additionally, working as a guide or porter means being away from home for weeks at a time which can conflict with traditional cultural expectations that women stay home to care for their families. Despite these barriers, we are actively working to increase female representation. Across our Kilimanjaro treks, about 15% of our staff are women, including 25% of our guides and 14% of our porters. While it’s a gradual process, these women are role models in their communities, breaking down barriers and inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in traditionally male-dominated roles. Our goal is to increase this number to 20% by the end of 2025. We also focus on fostering a supportive work environment, offering competitive wages, and ensuring respect and equality across our teams. It’s great to hear that your Tanzanian support staff showed strong support for female guides and porters-this kind of encouragement from within the industry is essential to shifting cultural norms. To address your questions, yes, these opportunities do open doors that were previously closed, particularly for women and those from underprivileged backgrounds. Working as a porter or guide on Kilimanjaro offers financial independence, skill development, and career advancement that many people, especially women, may not have access to before. As previously mentioned, these roles challenge traditional gender norms and provide women with a platform to pursue careers in the tourism industry-an area where men have historically dominated. Many female porters and guides use the experience to move into higher-paying positions, such as lead guides or even starting their own trekking businesses. Additionally, it helps them gain visibility, confidence, and skills that can be applied to other fields, empowering them to take on leadership roles and inspire future generations. We are also very proud to say that many of the women featured in this film continue to thrive in these roles. Thank you again for reaching out, and we hope to see more women climbing alongside you in the future!

what a beautiful video and it shows not just the picture post card side of this trek, but also opens up a bit of the harder side, the variable weather, but which all make the expedition even more meaningful and life changing

Ari this is a really great video. It brings back amazing memories, and hopefully it encourages many people around Ireland to take on this life changing adventure
Really pleased you enjoyed our Machu Picchu Travel Vlog! It's Ari's favourite Earth's Edge trip (so far!)
Can you please share July or August would be best time to do Mera peak ? Thanks
Thank you for your comment! We run expeditions to Mera Peak during October. Temperatures on the expedition may vary from 0 to 30 degrees during the day and -30 to 10 degrees at night. It’s best to be prepared for lower temperatures due to wind chill or the weather turning bad. Usually the days are hot and the nights are cold. You should be ready for inclement weather at all times as the weather can change rather quickly at high altitude. You can view our full expedition itinerary here - earths-edge.com/expedition/mera-peak-climb/
How can access the boot
Kalla Pathar summit is ca. 50 - 70 m higher. There is antenna/mast on it.
If we are flying from our home at 3,500 ft in the USA to Venice, Italy (0 ft above sea level) and then driving to Cortina D'Ampezzo (back to 3,500 ft). Then we are going up chairlifts and hiking to 7,000 to 9,000 ft each day and one night sleeping at 9,050 ft.. Should we stay in Venice for a few days or would it be better to go directly back to the 3500 ft high base of the mountains first? Thanks for the help. Debbie
Very well done. I hope to go this fall.
Hi Stephen, if you’d like a Mera Peak information pack, or if you have any questions about the expedition, please feel free to get in touch with us directly via support@earths-edge.com!
incredible video, this summit is now added to my summits list which I would like to achieve someday
That's great to hear! It's an amazing mountain!
When did you do this? I’m planning in last week of June!
Our Kang Yatse 2 expeditions take place in August! You can read our full itinerary here -> earths-edge.com/expedition/kang-yatse-ii/
Wonderful video! 😊 I climbed with Earths Edge on the January 27th expedition this year and had an unforgettable time 🥹.. All guides and porters, male and female were great.. “Abi Mama” especially was a massive help to me on summit day. Big thanks to lead guide Fredy and all the gang 💪🏻.
Delighted you had such a great experience with the team!!
Lulu 😃 Chop Chop 😂😂 fantastic guide that helped me get to the top 😊 Earths Edge 🫶
We love Lulu!! Non-stop, to the top!
Did this summit in 2013. Absolutely life changing. Taught me about myself, about other humans, cultures. Wish i could share some pics but on summit day it was the clearest day in months. Could see 7 of the 9 highest peaks in the world. Sunrise is incredible. But dont think its super easy, only 2 of us made it out of 9 due to frostbite and altitude sickness. Eat as much as you can every chance you get. Get to know your sherpas and the kitchen team they are the real heroes. Learn some of their language, create bonds
Yes, it's an an incredible mountain in an even more incredible place!
Looks amazing! Well done. Would love to see more summit day footage 😍
Hiya Laura, we've just released a daily vlog of the Kang Yatse 2 expedition which features more footage of summit day! You can watch it here -> ua-cam.com/video/L9bia6NAl6g/v-deo.html
Roger that 👍
With one mouth did you visit Nepal ? Great video !
Is earths edge an irish operator? Im looking to do this trek after i finish college so 2025 and i was only aware of ian taylors treks.
Yes! Earth's Edge is an Irish business, established in 2007. We would love to have you on an Island Peak expedition when you finish your studies - get in touch with support@earths-edge.com for more information!
3:33 8 hours to Namche? Easy to hike Lukla - Namche in less time. 3:41 old fella vigorously spinning the big prayer wheel to the wrong direction... BIG CONGRATULATION: choosing the High Scenic Trail via Phortse! Finally people are finding this superior trail instead of just hiking twice through Tengboche.
What an expedition! Thank you to Earth's Edge for the experience of a lifetime!
Thank you for capturing the magic of this expedition!
Brilliant. See you in March 👊
Ya big girl’s blouse..
🙂👍🙂👍🙂👍😊
great video n informative.... many thanks. Just completed my EBC last week... planning to do Mera Peak next year
Hi there! We're so happy you enjoyed the video and congratulations on completing the EBC trek! If you need any more information about our Mera Peak expedition please contact us on support@earths-edge.com
Very inspiring. I see lot of people going to Everest very unprepared. If I'm going to grocery store I check kitchen and prepare list of things needed and then go there, get it. Some people are trekking to highest altitude land on earth (EBC and ABC) and absolutely unprepared with fitness, and high altitude sickness and literally complaining entire way. I see you had very good luck with the weather, but your groups fitness looks perfect and always smiling and chilling.
Hi there! Yes preparation is key when it comes to high altitude expeditions. Our Mera Peak group got fantastic weather and were well prepared for the climb!
I'm from Tanzania, you are welcome 🇹🇿✌️kilimanjaro⛰️
What a brilliant video ! I did the summit in 2021 July and watching this brought tears of Joy to my eyes !! - I still can’t believe I touched the peak ❤️ Thank you for this wonderful capture !!
HI there! We are delighted that you enjoyed the video and it brought back so many wonderful memories of this incredible mountain!
Hey congrats on the summit!..you don’t mind me asking how was the weather in July?
Congrats. We plan to do Mera Peak in Oct 2024. Your video helps.
We are glad you found our vlog useful!

Bring it on 😎 I can't wait 🤙10/02/24
Exciting times!
Such a great video. A mountain I have heard of, but never seen footage of. Can I ask, how much would I expect to spend, excluding flights, to get to the top with porters?
Hi @FitzpatrickSD, thanks for reaching out to us. The Kilimanjaro Expedition is €3,999.00 excluding flights. This price includes an expert team with porters and a qualified doctor travelling with you. There are some additional expenses to consider, including personal spending money. If you would like to know more get in touch with us at support@earths-edge.com.
I heard that some geography classes in certain other countries teach people that Aconcagua & Denali are on the same continent.
Is it possible to do this trek when you have vertigo (I recently made the Manaslu circuit trek). Thx
Hi there! Having previous experience at altitude is an advantage but we would suggest consulting your GP before booking any expedition and following their advice.
