A New High Resolution Coastal Land Cover for the Nation (December 10, 2024)
Another webinar hosted by our Climate & Community Resilience Committee.
Current, accurate land cover is a common foundational data set used in support of a wide range of applications. Knowing what exists on the ground and how it has changed through time gives planners more information to better address issues from flooding risk, to policy evaluation, and land use planning. For more than two decades, NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management has been producing consistent, accurate land cover and change information through its Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP). While past data was developed at a 30-meter spatial resolution (using Landsat imagery) OCM has been moving towards a higher resolution land cover. Data that could be used for site-specific applications and decision making at a more local level.
In January of 2024 NOAA released the first phase of a new high resolution (1-meter) C-CAP land cover. This presentation will review these products, how AI technology has facilitated their production, and the work that is now being done to build that foundation into a next generation coastal land cover nationally.
Speaker: Nate Herold, Physical Scientist and Coastal Change Analysis Program Manager, NOAA Office for Coastal Management
Moderator: Norman S. Levine, Ph.D., Professor of Geology and Environmental Geosciences, Director: Santee Cooper GIS and Remote Sensing Laboratory & The Lowcountry Hazards Center, South Carolina Earthquake Education Preparedness Program

Very informative content. Thank you
❤❤❤
Honestly, I thought about the purpose of taking this exam a little differently after hearing your introduction. The exam seems more of a tool for us as a profession and professional rather than just an added title to our resume.
Fabulous presentation! Excited to learn more
Great webinar, a good variety of experienced speakers.
This was a very good webinar. Thank you for hosting it and for all the presenters who took their time to give very thoughtful and extremely relevant and helpful presentations.
Have yet to have one employer who has come to the interview having looked over my digital portfolio. It can be a great addition to an interview, but only if the hiring manager does their homework.
A colleague pointed this out to me: Given the content of the 911 audio used in the video, you may want to consider adding a trigger warning to the video or description.
Excellent summary of the varied and compounding issues involved in addressing. Every single organization provisioning GIS data for NG-911 needs to watch this video.

Hello! I am enjoying this video and I realize its a few years old now but could someone let me know if the slides are publicly available with live hyperlinks? Thank you!
I M studying for the GISP, did you take the exam?
I am in Dec. Going to take the demo test in a couple days. Feel like I know all this stuff but worried about definitions.
@@anhleroy nice. I am taking mine on On December 2nd. I am so nervous about this exam. Good luck man!
@@joelrodriguez1232 the are some videos on here that just reads the entire study guide. I like it bc I know a lot of this stuff from work but not some of the technical names and abbreviations
@@anhleroy l took the teachmeGIS course that unpacks everything. So lbam going through a lot of materials and l use quizlet as well. I also watched the entire study guide videos that you are talking about.
Please create a video on "Broadening your knowledge base with the 45 KSA's of GISP - a targeted study approach". Thank you for the video. Wish you interacted with comments.
Thanks alot
Fantastic!
So, patronizing and insulting to GIS professionals. This should be taken down, it is a true embarrassment to URISA.
Great presentation with a lot of useful information. Thank you, Kate!
Thanks!
Thanks for the tips
Is it old-fashioned to join a portfolio in PDF with a cv for a job application? I've just finished my first GIS course and so don't have much to show yet about 3-4 maps max. I dread a bit the time it takes to build a portfolio on line.
That's plenty to start with - for data or software portfolios, 3-5 is the typical number of projects. And any portfolio is a bigger boost over none, versus from okay to great. Go for it, and good luck!
Can you put links for the websites you recommend, for example the blueprint one? Thanks!
