RoJoBe Music violin neck replacement part 7
The violin is done! This has been quite an enjoyable project for me, and a bit of a learning curve. I am by no means a violin expert, but I'm really happy with how this has turned out.

After removing the fingerboard from the new neck to remove the rubbish glue, it's now time to re-attach it properly. Also a look at some tuning peg options. Apologies once again for the abrupt ending, same thing as usual; getting carried away with what I was doing and saying, and forgetting to keep an eye on the time.

So, on to my next project: Removing the nasty rubbish plastic neck from a cheap violin and replacing it with a proper wooden one to transform it from a useless wall hanger into a viable playable instrument. First job, strip it down to prepare for neck removal.

    I just finished watching the whole series of 6 parts, as I have had one of these since 1993, and I want to fix the action a bit next restring.

    I have the same tuners on my FG300A, made in 91 and bought in 93, so pretty sure they are original. A couple of them are stiff and a bugger to turn though. Has exactly the same cracks as yours too, but mine are more yellowed.

    Does lowering the action change intonation? I have a low budget uke with high action. Intonation is high pitched at all frets. The saddle is not snug and leans toward the nut. I am prepared to lower the nut slots, install a compensated bridge, and upgrade to Flourocarbon strings. Your thoughts... RT in USA

    • @rojobemusic3754
      @rojobemusic3754 3 місяці тому

      @@rtucker1004 The short answer is yes, lowering the action will help with intonation... slightly. And again, the upgrades you're talking about will help... slightly. Certainly can't make it any worse right? Provided the alterations are accurate

    • @rojobemusic3754
      @rojobemusic3754 3 місяці тому

      Think of it this way; if the action is too high, you have to push the string down further which stretches it more than normal resulting in a 'sharp' or higher pitched note

    You could paint the pins with ca glue to make them fit tight also applies to the saddle! Obviously let the glue dry before you put them back in lol

    I just got my Bat King Baritone last week. I'm brand new at music, so I'm having trouble fretting right now. Some of these triple cords are hard for us newbies. I chose a Uke because the strings are farther apart and I was sure that even I could pull this off. It looks like it will be a bit of work.

    Re: The Nut. I don’t understand why people don’t just knock off the nut and sand the bottom down instead of using special files? (The stings should sit at the height of a fret wire as if it were a fret wire.) The pressure of the strings (at the nut) should hold it back on, but use a bit of glue to keep it from moving from side to side.

    • @rojobemusic3754
      @rojobemusic3754 11 місяців тому

      I've done literally hundreds of string action adjustments on countless different instruments and i can tell you this; every job is different and there are always several different ways to do each one. Sometimes i will sand the bottom, sometimes i will file the slots and sometimes i will make an entirely new nut from scratch. It all depends on what each instrument requires and i will base my decision on experience.

    I'd try adjusting the truss rod before lowering the saddle and nut.

    • @rojobemusic3754
      @rojobemusic3754 Рік тому

      The truss rod is only for adjusting the neck relief, i.e. underbow/backbow. It won't do anything about string action, doesn't have anything to do with it. That can only be altered by adjusting the height of the nut and/or saddle. Also bear in mind I uploaded this video almost 2 years ago and the work has long since been done, successfully, by lowering the nut and saddle.

    • @stoneyrunva
      @stoneyrunva Рік тому

      I realize the chronology of the video. Comments may help the next person. When lowering the nut and saddle check the neck to see if it needs adjusting. Oil it. Sometimes these chinese made ukes will sit in a warehouse long enough for humidity and temperature changes to affect the neck. It can impact action. It can also dry out revealing sharp frets or a shrunken or bowed neck. It's a nice uke for the money. Thanks for the video.@@rojobemusic3754

    I have the spruce top kmise baritone. I replaced the strings with Martin 630 Baritone strings. I like the sound. I haven't tried a Batking ukulele but I appreciate the comparison. I wish they would remove the cheap looking koi fish or whatever it is and simply put holes in the face of the instrument.

    Really nice work. 👍👍👍 where did you get the scissors jack? I have 3 suggestions. 1) (Well more of an admonishment) Use a push stick. That's no way to file your nails.😁 2) Create a pair of long post tightening handles, for the jack, to stand above the jack. 3) Find a way to permanently attach a digital caliper, to be able to make, accurate, micro adjustments. The "iGaging EZ-Cal X-Large" Digital Display Calipers" is the best ~$35 you will ever spend. Available on the big "A". (YT does not like the real name) 😁✌🖖
