    Separating the liquid from the solid is a bad idea for the environment, because the only way to stabilize the nitrogen in the urine is the carbon. The urine in contact of air or water will bond with oxygen or hydrogen to become toxic molecules as ammoniac (NH3) or nitrates (NO2 and NO3) . So the best is to fill the bottom of your bucket with a thick layer of absorbing carbon matter to let the nitrogen bond with the carbon to form nutritive and organic molecules as amino acids. This is the most good for the environment which create a better and more balance compost.

      @@denisdufresne5338 dear denis, what you wrote is the best explanation of the beauty of the sawdust toilet. It is so simple, no messing around with separating out the urine. I can attest to the quality of the resulting compost. All of the food we produce is grown in 100% compost. While we add table scraps and garden refuse, most of our compost is from the sawdust toilet. As always, we tell everyone that the compost must have a year to “cook” before we put it on the garden.

      @@Abundaculture Oh, this is another controversial subject. Why humans believe in a Creator? Is not weird that the existence of God is a mystery to explain another mystery, that is to say the existence of the universe? It seems to me illogical to explain a mystery by another one, because we are stuck with the same problem. If something can not exist without a creator then who is the creator of the creator? As you can see we are stuck in an endless loop of the same question. Humans can not sustain the incertitude so they invent stories to feel better and to find a meaning in their lives. Trying to know why the universe exist is a futile quest and a waste of precious time. We should simply enjoy the short time we are on this planet and spread happiness around us.

      @@denisdufresne5338 The difference between the believer and the non-believer is that you make all things about what YOU can do. I believe that life is all about what God is doing and what He will do. He lays it all out in His Word. This Word tells us what life is really about. This story has a beginning, a middle and an end. I don’t have to carry the world on my own shoulders, as non-believers do. The Book is available to everyone. What you do with it is your decision.

    The religious nonsense is annoying. @4:57 "Starting out at about US$1,000"... False. $200 with a quality urine diverter included. So the reason your toilet does not give off odors is you physically dump it after each use and presumably clean the bucket. This is impractical for many you might as well have an outhouse. There is no composting happening in the bucket, it is all happening outdoors.

    We used a sawdust bucket toilet in our motorhome for a little over a year. The bucket was under an old antique chair. We didn't have a fan for it but we never had odor problems. It wasn't in a dedicated room either, just behind a curtain. For sawdust, I'd get bags of pellets for a pellet stove, fill a bucket about 1/3 full of pellets and spray water over them. In a couple of hours, we'd have a bucket full of "pellet powder" that smelled good and covered very well! Bucket and sawdust toilets are the way to go. We just bought a school bus and are now converting it into a mobile tiny home and I'll be building the same style toilet for it! Gotta save water when you're out and about! 😊

    Thank you, sir for that in depth video of your small rocket mass heater. I have a question about the entry portal for the wood. Does it get sucked into the hole or do you have to push it in periodically? I guess what I really want to know is, will wood fall out and on to the floor?

    • @Abundaculture
      @Abundaculture 6 місяців тому

      Dear first, You have to put the wood into the stove. It doesn’t fall out, but sparks could pop out. In our prototype I simply set two bricks in front of the opening. We will create a metal door for later models. Please be aware that this stove requires a few minutes of attention (putting in small pieces of wood) to get it going. Once the mass of the stove is warm, it will emit heat for up to 8 hours.
