He came as a cattle herder from Magude, fleeing from confronting his father after losing half a cattle herd. Coming to the street life of the Mozambican capital (then Lourenço Marques) in the mid-1960s he was picked up by step parents and visited boarding school where he trained to became a musician.
Formed a trumpetist, he went from group to group, until joining Grupo RM in 1983, with great references of popular music, such as Wazimbo, Sox, José Guimarães, Mingas, Alípio Cruz, Zeca Tcheco, Alexandre Langa, Zevo, among others.
In 1992, Chico decided to go for his solo career. Shortly after, he won a prize in a Rádio França Internacional contest with the song "Baila Maria", performed in duet with Mingas, which brought him to France, where he lived and shared the stage at music festivals with personalities such as Miriam Makeba, Salif Keita, Hugh Masekela, Youssou N'Dour, Peter Gabriel, Mori Kanté, Pierre Bianchi, among others. Many artistic partnerships followed, he created and joined numerous and always diverse musical projects and used them to know half the world.
In 2020 he joined Roland Pickl in Inhambane to record his follow up work of the 2014 released “Memorias” album. Over months he spent time in artistic residence with Roland and his companionship, first of all “The Next”, where his latest work was produced in partnership with Studio Bom Dia. In May 2022 Chico and The Next presented a well received performance at Centro Cultural Franco Moçambicano in Maputo including 11 musicians from 7 countries.
