    I’m a 29 year old male who exhibits a lot of ASD traits and who my mental health provider suspects me of being a high-functioning autistic. That said, I stim a lot whenever I feel angry or excited and even did so when I was a child. All the adults in my life just dismissed my inability to form friendships with other children and my quietness as shyness, so as a result I didn’t get diagnosed as early as I should have, and I STILL have yet to be officially diagnosed. 😢

    • @colourfulteachingforyou
      @colourfulteachingforyou 3 години тому

      Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I really appreciate it. I'm sorry that the adults in your life weren't there for you. There are a lot of people that don't want to face it and prefer to ignore it instead of helping their child. I'm glad you have a good health care provider in your corner. The process to get diagnosed can take quite a while. In the meantime, make sure to surround yourself with people who can love and support you. You deserve it.

    seeing a doctor is great and all, but with waiting lists like we have in UK, it’s not as quick as just going to the doctor and being referred and waiting a couple months at most to hear back. we wait years. so do go on google, if you feel the shoe fits, look into how to support your loved ones with the things they struggle with, in a way that they’ll respond to.

    • @colourfulteachingforyou
      @colourfulteachingforyou 12 днів тому

      Does it take that long to see your family doctor? They usually (not always) won't refer you if they don't believe your child needs it. I agree that the wait times incredibly long. If you're able to manage looking at Google, that's great but a lot of people tend to over diagnose and worry unnecessarily. Pairing this up with a support group or joining a community so that you have support when the worry kicks in if you're using Google or not might be helpful.

    • @colourfulteachingforyou
      @colourfulteachingforyou 23 дні тому

      We all age. Do you need someone to help you feel loved? Can you learn to love yourself for who you are? Once you focus on that, you'll attract more people into your life and you'll feel less ashamed. Honestly, there's nothing wrong with aging and being single. Enjoy your life as you are in this moment or find communities to engage in as they'll help uplift you and show you that you are worthy.

    There’s no such thing as mild low or high functioning autism all people on the spectrum are 100% autistic some people on the spectrum just need more support I do not wish to be mean to you I just wanted to stop this misinformation. I would suggest researching support levels of autism.

      This isn't misinformation. Please note that I've explained my reasoning multiple times in the comments. This video was also created quite a while ago when this was a thing. I agree that this term is going away now and I support it. Thank you for taking the time to comment and share your thoughts.

      Thank you for sharing. Autism is a spectrum so where you are on the spectrum is bound the change based on different circumstances, the amount of support you've looked into and received and with time. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your life experience with me. Have a lovely day.
