I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the kind of life I want to live, and I was wondering if you might have some thoughts on this. I’m 33, and my upbringing was pretty tough-I grew up in the city, surrounded by all the chaos that comes with that. Now I live in a village, which is definitely quieter, but I still feel so connected to the hustle of modern society in a way that doesn’t sit right with me anymore. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of a close, self-sustaining community-a group of people who live normal lives but are deeply mindful of their impact on the world and the ecosystem. Not in a preachy or militant way, but more like a family where everyone supports each other, works together, and shares a common vision of balance and purpose. The thought of being part of something like that just feels... right, you know? A place where you’re independent but also deeply connected. It’s hard, though-these kinds of communities seem so rare, and I imagine they’d be difficult to find, let alone be welcomed into. Do you think they’re as elusive as they seem? I’d love to hear your perspective on this, especially because you seem like the kind of person who really gets the value of connection and living consciously. Have you ever thought about what it would be like to experience something like that?

I was very much into hippie stuff: nature, communes, dreadlocks, psytrance etc.. after 15 years I completely switched and work in an IT company now, surrounded by "conservative" people. Best decision in my life. Turned out that most of those "open minded" people were basically just a bunch of narcissists and hypocrites who just want to sit around, smoke weed, take shrooms and acid thinking they have knowledge others don´t have and tell themselves how enlightened they are...

I hope the irony of being hippies, yet having to drive all the way just to sit together and have a party, whilst consuming resources is not lost on them... The idea of hippies is great, saving the earth and all, but Cartman was awfully correct "They wanna save earth, but all they do is smoke pot and make music" It should be about community and earth, but in the end, its all masqueraded individuality and selfishness, supported and enabled by the exact mechanisms that they oppose (ex. industrialization, capitalism etc etc).

How do you find those communities to stay in temporarily or permanently? I searched about it online and cant find much about it. I guess those communities may not be so much online as those communities all often mostly of grid.

I was going to vist a off grid community once too and they had me fill out a stupid form first , and then tell me I could not even vist because I told them I wanted to go there and eat all organic farm food there because it may help my health, also heard two women went to same place and were kicked out after a week and not told why

Learn portuguese at least. You can live off grid but you still need to adapt to our nation's laws and costumes. I see many foreigners here who recuse to learn portuguese
