2001 Yamaha Raptor 660R axle carrier bearings replacement

I replaced the axle carrier with a new Billet Aluminum housing with twin row bearings. I had replaced the bearings originally with OEM Yamaha when I restored the bike last summer, but only got 18hrs on them, and then replaced those with All Balls and only got 10hrs. CAD designed and hand built by me as a final design project for college. Finished 2nd in the course overall with the highest RPM (3700 rpm), and most compact. It uses only a 2L pop charged to 75 psi, and runs wide open for as long as possible which in this case about 40 seconds.

    • @gordonwbell
      @gordonwbell 2 роки тому

      Hey, the costs will be a lot different for each person. I live in Canada so parts are lot more expensive than the states due to currency conversion and duty fees from shipping them from the states. If it’s a ticking noise could be a simple fix like have the valves adjusted or the timing chain is stretched - both fairly inexpensive to do. I get a buddy who’s experienced in mechanics have a listen to it before spending any money. That all being said, I was $1000 for a running engine again without splitting the cases. I did the cylinder, piston, valves, timing chain, starter clutch, oil pump and rebuilt water pump. So the crank and gears were still good. Hope that helps man.

    • @gordonwbell
      @gordonwbell 3 роки тому

      Hey, unfortunately I would not. It’s better to buy a nearly or fully complete but blown up, ratted out, clapped out bike, that the frame isn’t damaged or been modified. I say this because, even though you might end up replacing a lot of things, it’s better to have all the pieces that are hard to find and work from that. You can buy intact and good condition bottom end of the engines and then build that up, if you want - but to do that, it needs to be a rolling chassis, meaning it has the wiring harness, CDI, wheels, plastics, seat, suspension etc. I hope this helps.

      Ya that’s normal. Mine is not. Someone had wired mine to be on all them time. There is a thermostat switch in the bottom of the radiator that switches on the fan. Your fan should come on around 208F or 98C. I thought of returning mine to stock but I someone cut the plug off the wiring harness.

    Anytime you build rather than buy it is so much more personal. The touches and parts and how it's assembled. Every time you start it you can hear that it's happy or not. I'm transforming an 06 into something just for me. Great video. It's nice to witness people using their brain and hands and not their wallet.

      @@Davido50 When I get done restoring my 2001 it will be showroom quality as EVERYTHING on it is brand spanking new. Guess you could say that I bought and built mine lol😂.
