Ego: commonly held to mean pride or vanity, but more basically it's the false perception of "self" based on the chatty mind. And all the things the mind has accumulated that becomes one's "identity" - unless or until one notices that. Merely observing it, from an external viewpoint, is an awakening. I no longer identify completely and thoroughly with that egoic identity, the moment I notice it.
