Got my Sunday morning coffee, now hangin' at Eugene's House (virtually, of course)! :) Fun tune - can't wait for the album!

Mastering Chain: Use finesse in mastering. Start with flat filter envelope. I advocate a kind of "adversarial" relation to the tape sound. So, you kind of work against the tape. For example, do it in the filter envelope. Cut some lows in the studio, perhaps. All the time you master bad recordings can screw up how you master this. You put all the live mastering techniques against the live mix down. It's a different kind of live mix down than a board tape or tape recorder in the audience. Little bit of mid range cut. Find top end of bass. It's rare to hear anything that is good these days. Try more extreme stereo separation, mix down delay. Short slap. Some kind of hard pan. More of a room sound than a "warm" sound. Back then we were fighting the, tape in a way. There was no digital and we all wanted it.

It makes sense to master at -6DB LUFS. It's a soft Bossa. It's OK to do this. People are all playing soft songs TOO loud. It's not so easy to drop down to -6.

Good recording engineer's ears. It's different ears from just a player. We listen to some different stuff.

Mastering Chain: What to do when it's all there? Treat it more like a classical piano performance. Shape envelopes to increase contrast between the solos. Just attenuate slightly. It's easy to make it worse. Careful with Parametric EQ. Drop a little bottom. This is more like what you should get in a professional situation. So, you are using amplitude envelopes to just go with what they are doing now. First head, last head? Good one for reference tracks. Listen to some of the Blue Note recordings. "Tame the Tape" Normally you don't get this open, tape sound. So, here you are pushing against that tape. It's a subtle kind of LP mastering. Reference: BEETHOVEN | Piano Trio. These are fun to work with because it's not all Fkd up to start from. Be peace mastering engineers and always avoid the dreaded Copyright Takedown by following the whack a mole model. This is fun one, lead you in some nice directions. Not perfect; but, good enough to work with.

Sounds really good with real nice levels and good mixing. You can tell from the sound of it that he is running the reel to reel pretty fast. 15IPS 7.5? I can hear that stuff. You guys who worked with tape know what I'm talking about. I miss this so much. I was cutting and splicing tape. The tape sound is so nice to hear again. Like an old friend from the old days! It's a pretty good one. I started on the Studer 2 tack recorder. Why not start with the best? Just record 2 track on the Stude. The reel to reel was as big as an electric stove and you would roll it around the studio. Great recorder.

overall arrangement it´s ok, but the piano has a poor presence except in the solo. Maybe a question of production/microphone thing.
