replied to another commenter with this but use this as info - 'this may be a VERY late reply, but motors used here are some type of dc bo motors, these motors dont pull just 250ma they can pull upto 1.5-1.7 A when stressed enough, and they operate sufficiently at 3-5v aswell as 8-9v, now you see the l298a can supply upto 2A to each side so 1A each motor in this case and upto 14v to each motor. buuuuttt the l298a has its own processes to power so there is a loss of about ~2-2.5v, thus supplying only ~9-10v in this case. and for general cases a simple 9v radio battery is enough to power the whole system since the l298 can operate on voltages from 4v to 12v safely. ALSO one thing wrong in this video is hime powering the esp with 5v instead of 3.3v. THIS CAN REALLY DAMAGE AND FRY the board in some time or even immediately. DO NOT PWER YOUR ESP8266 WITH 5V except for usb power. thank me later.'
