Walking The High Line | New York City | Walking Tour
Welcome to our in-depth exploration of the High Line, one of New York City's most iconic and innovative urban parks. This elevated greenway offers a unique blend of nature, art, and history, making it a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists. Join us as we take you on a journey through this extraordinary space, uncovering its past, present, and future.
The High Line's story begins in the early 20th century. Constructed in the 1930s as part of the West Side Improvement Project, the elevated rail line was designed to lift dangerous freight trains off Manhattan's streets, ensuring the safe transportation of goods to and from the city's bustling factories and warehouses. For decades, the High Line served as a critical artery for New York's industrial sector. However, with the rise of interstate trucking in the mid-20th century, rail traffic dwindled, and the High Line fell into disuse.
By the 1980s, the High Line was abandoned and faced the threat of demolition. But in the late 1990s, a grassroots effort led by community activists and visionaries sparked a movement to save and repurpose the structure. They imagined the High Line as a public park, a green oasis amidst the concrete jungle. After years of advocacy, fundraising, and planning, the first section of the High Line opened to the public in 2009. Today, it stands as a testament to the power of community and innovative urban design.
**What to See and Do:**
1. **Gansevoort Street to 34th Street:**
Spanning from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to 34th Street in Hudson Yards, the High Line offers 1.45 miles of beautifully landscaped pathways. Each section of the park has its own unique character and attractions.
2. **Chelsea Market Passage:**
One of the most popular sections, the Chelsea Market Passage, is a semi-enclosed area featuring food vendors, public art, and stunning views of the city. This area was once home to the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) and is where the famous Oreo cookie was born.
3. **Public Art Installations:**
The High Line is renowned for its rotating public art installations. Throughout the park, you'll encounter contemporary sculptures, murals, and performance art. These installations are curated by Friends of the High Line, ensuring that there's always something new and exciting to see.
4. **Beautiful Gardens:**
The High Line's gardens are a botanical marvel. Designed by landscape architects James Corner Field Operations and planting designer Piet Oudolf, the gardens feature over 500 species of plants, including native grasses, perennials, and wildflowers. Each season brings a new palette of colors and scents, making every visit a unique experience.
5. **10th Avenue Square & Overlook:**
This amphitheater-like space provides a unique perspective of 10th Avenue and the bustling city below. It's a great spot to sit and soak in the vibrant energy of New York City.
6. **The Spur and the Plinth:**
The Spur, the newest section of the High Line, features the Plinth, a dedicated space for monumental art installations. The Plinth's rotating series of sculptures are sure to inspire and provoke thought.
7. **Hudson Yards:**
At the northern end of the High Line lies Hudson Yards, a sprawling development featuring state-of-the-art architecture, shopping, dining, and cultural attractions. Be sure to visit the Vessel, an interactive sculpture and centerpiece of Hudson Yards, offering stunning views of the city from its spiral staircase.
The High Line is open year-round, but each season offers a different experience. Spring and summer bring lush greenery and vibrant blooms, while fall showcases stunning foliage. Winter transforms the park into a serene, snow-dusted landscape. The High Line offers countless photo opportunities, from panoramic cityscapes to intimate garden scenes. Don't forget your camera or smartphone to capture the memories.
The High Line is more than just a park; it's a symbol of New York City's resilience, creativity, and community spirit. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned local, the High Line offers a refreshing escape and a glimpse into the transformative power of urban green spaces. We hope you enjoy your visit to this extraordinary New York City landmark!

Do they have hair dryers in the room?
Yes!
Horrible experience. Paid $1500 a night for a $300-500 night experience. You can tell immediately that it isn’t a $1000+ hotel. Service is horrible and employees act like you are bothering them. Barely got a drink trying to find staff to serve at beach. People at hotel are mostly members and you can tell they did not pay more than $400 a night. Throw in the parks and that explains it. You pay $1000+ a night but get a $400 experience because people there are members paying $500 a night plus throw in the parks and it is more like $100-200 for them. High intensity sales experience all over the hotel. Checked Oura and I was more stressed there than at home. Beautiful hotel but service and food quality are not at the level they need to be. Have stayed in Quintana Roo hotels more than 10 times and service was always great no matter the price.
Fair assessment! Thanks for watching
Just the video I needed to see. I am debating between Outrigger Waikiki and Sheraton Waikiki. Me and my wife traveling.
Thanks for watching! Sheraton was definitely our favorite out of the two, and it's been recently renovated!
@@GoTravelTours The rooms with the view out towards Diamond head might just seal the deal for me.
Beautiful video! Thank you!!!
Thanks for watching!
The swim up is good if you don’t like to share tub with strangers aka people who urinate in public pools. My suggestion would be to get a full swim up or room with outdoor pool not the river swim up. They are very different and the price is different but instead of a cold plunge outdoor pool like he said) you get a full size partially heated small private pool
Great info! Thanks for watching
The 15 outdoor pools include the rooftop pools and pools on the sister property which you also have access to
Thanks for the info!
i was just there yesterday lol
Nice! How did you like it?
👏👏❤
Thanks for watching!
A crime city. No thanks!
Better in the daytime :)
NYC always look so attractive in pictures ….. so far from reality ….
Very different in person
People that have numerous couples and family staying there would take that room. We will be doing just that in November. Just because you didn't use all the things in the room doesn't mean other people don't. lol.
Absolutely! I called it out that it's a bit much for just two people. Not complaining! It was by far the best room we've stayed in. Thanks for watching :)

is that lucky larrys building still?
Yeah he’s the developer
Me litterally in the other part of the world🙃
@@Ital_Aviation haha thanks for watching!
Complaint, Complaint, Complaint!!! And some more Complaint!!!! That's all I heard!
Might want to rewatch, lots of compliments too
No toiletries? 😅
Haha didn’t film that this time around!
Anything but this song.
Haha why is that?
Find another topic bro
🤟thanks for watching
I was jump scared by my own town and state
😂
Que pena que desgraciaron ese hermoso hotel con esos costos elevados, se ve el cambio, sin turistas.
That’s how it seems
They go out of their way to make communism look appealing don't they
If anything, this is more peak capitalism
Beautiful
Thank you!
I hate how NYC looks now. They've gotten rid of all the old buildings.
There’s still plenty everywhere!
Moje miejsce jest w Ameryce pozdrawiam shepherd
👏
I've stayed at Secrets 2x both times on the preferred level, and I'm not a member. You do, however, have access to the preferred lounge, the preferred pool ( no activities) it's great for anyone who likes a quiet and smaller setting, and each preferred level has a butler. All the staff there was fantastic and would love to go back. 100% recommended. O and one more thing if you want a real nice dinner ( and expensive) go off the resort about 5 minutes by car 15ish waking, to Harry's steak house and raw orster bar. The sevice is absolutely ❤❤❤❤❤ wonderful. You will have probably never have an experience like it. Also the preferred level as private check in.
Thanks for the input! There’s great to know
Turned it off because got tired of your face. More view of hotel, don’t be such a narcissist
Oh, is that the Saudi memorial pool?

they must have upgraded your room, this is not a partial view room, this looks like diamond head oceanfront room
Maybe, but they didn’t tell us we got upgraded 🤷♂️
I learned something new about this destination today, thanks.!
Awesome! Thanks for watching 🤝
You didnt talk about all the xcaret parks and tours included! So worth it!
Those were decent perks, but the hotel experience itself was plenty to talk about
Where are your toiletries?
Packed those in a backpack
Im going next week.. looking for good pool for kids maybe Sheraton.. other dont have kids pool
Definitely one of the better all-around options
Great information
Thanks for watching!
You didn't mention that price includes access to the other hotels and 10 parks with more to do than you have time for
Good callout, I didn’t mention the parks because I didn’t get any footage and the video was already running long, but I believe I mentioned the Xcaret Mexico access
@GoTravelTours is access to the Xcarte Mexico side still included when you're staying on the Arte side? I've been hearing conflicting information. Some say it is included, and others say it's included only ig you're staying in a specific room category or casa.
@@christinad2611 if you stay at the Xcaret Arte you do have access to Xcaret. Xcaret Arte is the adult only hotel. Xcaret hotel is where kids can stay. There are a lot of confusing things about that Resort that takes some research but if you watch enough videos you'll figure it out. There's lots of information on their website and some people even sell cheat sheets for 20 bucks😂. Both hotels give you access to all 10 Parks. you do have to make reservations for eight of them. There are two parks explore and another one I don't remember the name that you don't need reservations. It's the same way with the restaurants, you have to make reservations as soon as you arrive at resort, or else you won't be able to get in. I know it's a lot of information but the resort is so big you'll have to go several times in order to do everything.
Was there about 15 years ago, amazing place then, but looks even nicer now. If I could afford it I would definitely go back.
Yeah I think the remodel is why they’re charging so much now
Nailed it. Last stay was at HHV. Was 90% sure I wanted to stay at the Sheraton now I am 100% sure. Thank you.
You’re welcome:) thanks for watching
Ok, perhaps a dumb questions but the drinks in the room fridge, is it free or do they charge?
Drinks in fridge are included and they restock it daily :)
We have preferred membership with all Secrets and the only thing that is a bigger difference is the better liquor and the Butler service. At the Vine we like the pools at the beach better than the one up top.
Great to know! Thank you
Nice place but now is so expensive
Yeah it’s definitely pricey!
Do you like your Hybrid? Wondering about the latches and the seal vs the zipper on the original.
Absolutely love it. And I prefer the latches to zipper, just seems sturdier that way
Look into Secrets Akumal. Very lush, not a concrete jungle, or something like this resort with Miami vibes. We want tropical, Caribbean feel, which is lacking in downtown Cancun. We loved Secrets Cap Cana in the DR!! The beach was amazing, lovely rooms, friendly staff, anout twenty minutes from the airport. For another all adult, all inclusive, in Cancun the Iberostar Grand Pariso knocks it out of the park. We were there around Christmas, and the level of service could not be beat.❤ Happy traveling!
Thank you for the recommendation!
What month and year did you stay at Secrets? I stayed at Riviera area last May 2023, Royalton Hideaway. The water was not blue and I want a resort with blue water beach next February.
We were there in March 2024, second half of the month. The weather was perfect!
It's more of your face in the video than the hotel..
For a hotel only view, I have the full although w on my channel
@@GoTravelTours You have a very kind face.
@@Mr2blue2thank you!
Omg looks like the exact same room we had. Did u have anyone above you? If not then that was our room. So cool
We had a few floors above us
Stayed last November. The best part of the resort was our room. Has a corner master suite. Huge and amazing full windows that opened up to the ceiling. Best view or the city and ocean. Out of 11 all inclusive resorts I’ve stayed at was by the best room and we always get a master suite. Butlers was ok. Food was horrible. Pool seating was horrible.
Agree on food and pool seating. We had floors above us, so not the exact room. Beach was great too!
Great video Waikiki beach is all man made I think they get all the sand from California but I could be wrong went last year with my family of four and spent $1300 in seven days at the abc store 😅
Oof! Those stores are addicting though
I went to this resort and stayed in the prefered club. Firstly all of the rooms on the top floors are prefered club rooms. These rooms include butler service as well as access to a prefered club lounge with snacks and premium alcohol. I drank most of my drinks from this bar either going to and from pool or to and from dinner which was mostly shots and margaritas made with Don Julio 70. You also get access to the prefered club pool and olio pictured in this video. For me this pool was more comfortable with more available seating and better food and drink service (including premium drinks). Personally I made regular use of all of the prefered club amenities and so this was well worth the added cost but milage may vary.
That’s very good to know! Thank you for sharing
What is the name or brand of those black compression cubes? please
Those are also from Monos, theyre the packing cubes
Is there seaweed on the beach in June?
Great question! I’m told the seaweed is usually not a problem and gets frequently cleaned off the beach
Thank you for your review. Was looking into this resort and Rui Palace Peninsula. First two things I usually look for is the food and beach. Food kind of looks underwhelming here, but the beach is really nice. I think I'll check out another resort lol. Thanks again
That’s why I’m here! Glad I could help
