Ernie Hawkins + Jagtime Millionaire - Candyman (Reverend Gary Davis) at Acoustic Music Works
Dec 8 2023... an intimate gathering of folk and blues fans! Ernie Hawkins (www.erniehawkinsguitar.com) and Jagtime Millionaire (Raymond Morin) play the RGD classic.
While both guitars were plugged in at soundcheck, Ernie unplugged his at some point, so the JM guitar appears louder! Both guitars find a home in the Ear Trumpet microphone, though, so it kind of worked out!

Jagtime Millionaire - "Maple Leaf Rag" (Scott Joplin)
Переглядів 9865 років тому
Scott Joplin's famous "Maple Leaf Rag" is one of the most important pieces of American music ever written. It opened the door to the ragtime era/craze, and the style dominated popular music in the US for almost 20 years. 120 years after its publication in 1899, it still remains one of the best known and most beloved rags of all time. The version I play comes primarily from the guitar arrangemen...

Great playing
Dallas Rag was originally written for piano. A piano has 88 strings, whereas a guitar has 6. Do you see the problem? Anyway this is probably the best rendition of it on You Tube as sit back and enjoy it. Well done sir!
Come to the Midwest or Southwest!
Superb! Fantastic playing and wonderful tone from a fine guitar.
Thanx for the tune! Good to see you Ernie.
I'll take all of this I can get!!!
Yeah man I think you've cracked it😊👍
Not sure which is better, the guitar or the player… that was translucent and radiating… well done 👍
Bad ass! Great playing
That was fantastic!
Great playing ! I just learned this in the past few days....Stefan Grossman / Dave Laibman version....Hey Arlen, You know my brother Denny Tillman!
Great job! Hey, is that a Kopp guitar behind you?
Hi Arlen....Ron Tillman here ...Denny's brother....I have been playing gtr over 50 yrs. He told me he hung out with you a bit....cool....I've known about you almost all my life....great article in Vintage Guitar magazine!
So good! Thanks for pointing me to your channel!
Oh hell ya!
Very hard song to play correctly...very nice version!
Amazing-love this!!
Beautiful!
That was absolutely great!
Very nicely done!
Holy sh-t!! I am IMPRESSED!! I have been struggling with this tune for years!! I learned Stefan Grossman version with tabs and could get everything but the first verse walk up, and would just stumble and fall off the neck trying to get it!! You put me and countless others to shame, my boy- you’re a true inspiration!!
Loved your music and the video! You always amaze us with your talent.
Absolutely loved this! Great job! 👍 It was so spirited! And I like the little cutaways too...Danube Waves..looks familiar was one of the old piano instruction books? ❤️ to Rosie!
Greeting from Lawrence KS, and thanks for the great music! Your picking sounds spirited and lively, and I appreciate that beautiful Hummingbird, too.
Thx KW! I was a resident of Lawrence in my college years, and my sweet mom still lives in North Lawrence. Thanks for listening!
Superb.
Amazing
omg I love the editing on this so much. the creepy fish, the horns, the rosie cameo.
Perfect 👍🏼
Just fantastic.
Thanks for the Cameo Appearance! Checking out your Bandcamp now.
played extremely well!!!
Killer.
Sounds great!
Such a deft touch. Great work!
Just wonderful. Let me be the first to seek your arrangement in tab!
Thanks, Patrick! Like I said in another comment, this is the Ton Van Bergeyk arrangement that appeared on "Famous Ragtime Guitar Solos" which is available on CD (w/ tab included) from www.guitarvideos.com. Stefan Grossman says that this is the arrangement that he and John James used to play in the 70s. I used John's performance on "John James In Concert" as my inspiration for playing this piece. It's slow and dynamic, and I really think brings out the beauty of the composition.
Thanks Jag-Man for the clues. I know where to take it from here.
hello Raymond....just fantastic! Thanks for sharing your passion of Ragtime with us and the video shots and quality - excellent!
Thanks, Dale! That means a heck of a lot, coming from you! I really appreciate the support.
I love this tune and have been trying to learn to play it, off and on, for years now. If I could do it half as cleanly as you do, at three quarters of the speed, I’d be thrilled. A really great rendition!
Thanks Todd! I really appreciate it. Just keep picking it up. I find that sometimes after some time off from a tune that is challenging, you'll come back to it and things will just click. With stuff like this, it pays to go super-slow and get it clean, practice your butt off, and then before you know it you're really raggin' (and struttin')
