i've had the freedom pet pass for well over a decade with two rottweilers going in and out 40 - 50 times a day. because this item is so weather-tite, we leave it open all year long. the only time we put the block off panel on is when we have workmen in the backyard. I cant say enough about how this is one of the few things I have every purchased that really delivered on its promises.
This might be the best how to series I have ever seen on UA-cam. Well done.
Hi 👋. How secure r these from rodents, wildlife as we live in a rural area in northern Ontario?
The doors are basically rodent-proof. The airtight seal is too strong for small critters to overcome. Bigger critters (skunks, raccoons, etc.) don't use the door either, for a combination of reasons. First, the airtight seal and opaque flap trap smells, light, and heat inside. The wild animals can't even tell the pet door is a way inside. Second, area around the pet door is heavy with the smell of your pets - a danger signal to other animals. Without the lure of food smells, light, etc. and with the presence of your dogs, wild animals avoid the area around the pet door. I'm not aware of a single instance in our almost 20-year history of a wild animal actually gaining entrance to a home through one of our pet doors.
I can't find video #3. I have watched 1 & 2 and 4, but no 3.
Hi Katie! Here's the UA-cam link: ua-cam.com/video/UU9DmHraLNw/v-deo.html Additionally, you can watch the whole series with written instructions on our website: energyefficientdogdoors.com/installation/wall-mount-installation/ Hope this helps!
Thanks for this video. I'm not using a pet flap, just keeping a hole in an open framed wall for the cats to have their own passage, but the trick of getting the height even is so useful.
Glad you found it helpful! If you ever want to consider adding a flap for your cat door, definitely check us out. Good luck with your project!
Why don't you seal he studs of a pet door like you would a window?
Just got mine installed
Why not use a jigsaw?
I don't even own one of these pet doors... I just can't stop watching the video series because the process is so satisfyingly and this guy is like the Bob Ross of handymen with his soothing voice.
"Sweet."
What a useless video!!!!!
What do you do here for installation onto stucco? Just use screws that are long enough to go through the stucco and into the wall framing?
Plastic Anchors would be sufficient… I personally don’t think the framing is necessary windows get framed as he does it to spread the load of the big open space in a wall it between studs it’s not needed unless u cut out a stud
great video. How can I do the exact same thing, but with old aluminum siding? I have to be careful because I have no idea if I can even find replacement aluminum siding if I mess up too bad. Thanks!
@kevin - The cutting process is much the same. With vinyl or aluminum siding, you have the ability to use J-channel around the perimeter, which can hide an imperfect cut. If you're really concerned about minimizing mistakes, you could consider knowingly making the rough cut smaller than you need, and then using a more precision tool to enlarge it to the perfect size. It's more work, but that might give you more control. Just being cognizant that this is a "measure twice, cut once" type of scenario (which you clearly are), helps.
@@rangerpetdoors - Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate your suggestions. KG
Just ordered mine after research I’ve done this is the best on the market.
No Sound?!
Really? Couldn't you add audio that would help explain the product?
Great video tutorials for installation and frame building! Since you've got these steps separated into quite a few different videos, it'd be very handy if you could create a UA-cam playlist of these videos. It would make the process go much smoother. Thanks!
Good suggestion! This series of videos was made for our website, where there is additional context for each step. We'll put this on our list. If you want to check out the website, it's here: energyefficientdogdoors.com/installation/wall-mount-installation/
@@rangerpetdoors Thanks for the reply! I'll check that out. :)
no audio?
Was gonna ask the same thing. Some ambient music if nothing else.
Very good video.
Hello, what would the process be for stucco walls? :-)
Is this necessary for a stucco wall?
Probably less necessary than if you have lap siding like cement board or vinyl. The steps shown on this video series do everything possible to prevent water intrusion / damage, and cutting back the exterior cladding allows for flashing. This is only one way to accomplish this. For stucco, you could consider just making sure that there is a good seal all the way around with construction adhesive, as an example. It's not perfect, but sometimes that's tough to achieve with a retrofit.
Could I replace using the cleats with using a pocket hole jig and just screw into the studs?
It certainly wouldn't be as sturdy. It might be okay for a smaller door, but if you've got a large or XL, doing the cleats would probably be safer.
@@rangerpetdoors thanks for the reply! I’m putting a door in my stucco exterior wall
Who builds a house on 12” centers?
Thank you!. Yoir video are HANDS DOWN THE BEST!!!. DIY I'VE SEEN. You explain well and show a "behind the scenes" look. I'm always afraid of what I can't see. So I don't cause a bigger problem than I'm trying to solve.
So sweet, just ordered one because we ordered a diy split duct a/c and the big box dog for we have to would let all the cool air out. Can’t wait!
Make a video how to repair a cat door hole like this in case u want to take the door down or sell the house without it , thanks :)
EXACTLY the information I was looking for, and not finding in other videos
Why does the flexible adhesive pan material go at the bottom but not at the top?
Water can get in because gravity sucks.
would have been good if it had the protection on each side , not just on the outside , but same on the inside....
Why do you have to have sill risers? Because you can't drill into the sill plate? I don't know the code, but the lower I can go, the easier it is for the dog.
I cut mine like that but not as precise what would you do about weather proofing around cut? Mine doesn't have membrane that I saw.
Hahah “hold the door on the opening 🐶🐾”
Dear Lord man.. Think that will hold er ?? Hurricane come through, everything would be 3 blocks over accept to doggie door !! Nice work tho..
LOL
Dang, doesn’t look as easy as I thought it to be
Very informative, detailed video showing what to do and warns of the gotchas! Thanks!
Your instructional video was spot on!!!! I am a perfectionist, and always consider water intrusion. I have been a contractor for 21 years now and I am very impressed with your video. Thank you for providing such accurate information for the beginner attempting to perform this installation.
Seems like the video ended a little soon.
I don’t have a board for cutting the wall, can I kick it with my foot?
